Check engine warning light

Post by Wanderer »

hi all,

cruising around today in my '93, 1.6 EFI Vit LWB & the Check Engine light on the dash came on, but no noticable change in engine revs/tone/noise/vibrations/power.......stopped the Vit & checked under bonnet, nothing visible so started up again & light is OFF! about 20 minutes driving later same/same, but nothing noticable - the drivers manual states that this light will come on if there is a fault with engine emission control.....

any hints/suggestions/advice?

A manufactures workshop manual should have a better explaination. They have a table with problem, diognosis and remedy. If its to do with emissions then maybe bad petrol or leaky hoses. Don't take my word on that though because I dont know much.

Or oxygen sensor... Does it come on when you've been on the gas for a prolonged period of time, ie. pulling a long hill at high speed?

Your best bet is to take it to a mechanic who can plug it in and diagnose.
