Thats what I got 36" with 4.88 and Rockhopper gear set and can only just take off in high range on road or flat trail but can`t take of step hill or sand

ok, i sounds like duals are to way to go then. 4sum4 would you think about going to duals instead of or including your rockhopper gears in the future?

yes definatly I have another down the back That will be getting duals
and another thing with the rockhoppers is that you got to grind the box to fit`em and makes a week spot and if you blow the T/Case there goes $1K of gears and with duals all you get to get is another T/Case.

yeah duals 4 sure!!!
more gear options and if i blow it u can just get a stock t/case and bolt the hole thing in rather than stripin down the busted oine and fixin it...
aswell as u get low range 2WD which is good if u blow a cv and need 2 get out of where u r, if u wanna take it out of 4WD and just use rear high range maybe 2 high so u can just pull the front shifter into low and u have 2WD low.
also u have the option of std low range, this is good in situatiuon where double low may b 2 too and u cant get enuf wheelspeed 2 get up sumthing, just grab std low and use 1st or 2nd and away u go....
i have duals in mine and love them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Duals are the next on my list, like has been said before, drop some rockcrawlers in the second box and get out and have a beer why you watch your rig crawl up the stairs. Just gives you much more variety in your gears, essential with yota cv's.

So what diffs do I need to be able to be lifting wheels and crashing back down to the ground without breaking a CV - All while at 5000rpm?
Dual trannies seem like the way to go, hows the setup generally work?

dual case setup is easy..
basicallt he hilux transfer case has 2 parts,
the front section, which is called the reduction box, this section is where u get hi and low range from.
the rear section, which is the transfer case, which give u front wheel drive...
so 2 setup dual case u need 2 complete transfer cases and an adapter plate...
basically wot u do is split the front case, noe 2 the rear part of the reduction box u bolt the adapter, then 2 that u bolt the complete other transfer...
2 get gears, if u leave the front case in high and u just use the rear case ike mormall all u have is std hi range 2WD, std HI range 4WD and std low range 4WD..
if u put rear case in hi 2 and then put the front case in low u have low range 2WD and then if u move rear into low u get lowlow.
hope that makes sence.....

This thread has converted my thoughts back again to duals.
I thought duals were the way to go till someone from the forum told me that rock-hoppers would reduce my hi range gearing by 12% so I could still run hi range 4wd on the beach.
So I guess I should still be looking at duals???
after lockers ofcourse.
What is the price diff?

ppl recon you can use the orig but why would you when you can buy a bling one from bubs for like $400 , snake seels the marlin adapters for around $1200 and marks has the AA adapter (older version of marlin) for $595 atm

My mechanic has duals all done ready to go sittin on his bench, I'm second in line for it, what's a good price to offer for the hole lot. I'm thinkin 1500 installed, or am I bein cheap.
Noticed theres a G52 and transfer in the for sale section.

depends on what adapter it is $1500 installed, um maybe like 2k by the time you cover cost of adapter , 4speed case, tranny crossmember, front and rear driveshaft mods , then installation your looking more at 2k+ for someone to do the work

Thanks spazbot, so you need a 4 speed, so a spare 5 speed is useless for it, was doing crossmember anyway, will make sure it's made for the dual tranny's now, and shafts were being modified shortly, so helps me plan a few things rather than doing twice, sweet.
