Prices for used 4b

Post by Nev62 »

Ok, I give up, the Raider is going

In my next life, I'm going to be a fabricator and make a squealan bucks ripping people off because I can :x

Looking at a couple of old 4b's and wanted a general idea on price and people's feeling about each. Each of the following vehicles are around the $9500 mark.

1989 MQ Patrol ST 4.2lt petrol 180,000km - stock

1987 60 series crusier 3lt desiel 280,000km - stock

1984 4 runner 2.4lt desiel 325,000km - 2" body lift (Body mounts have been relocated/welded, no blocks used), SOA, aftermarket turbo and timmer, 33" wheels, rear air diff lock - crappy interior

What say you :?: :?: :?:

I assume that is meant to be GQ patrol at that age :?: If so I'd go for that ;) specially if it's a dd

I understand the frustration with the Raider and why you gave up  trust me you won't regret it. Just make sure your next vehicle is well supported in the aftermarket, any of the listed ones are good :)

Yep, sorry, it is a GQ. DD???

The reason behind suggesting the 4 Runner was because of the extra goodies (for got to add the snorkle) but like I said, the interior was shagged. If I get either the patrol or crusier, there is no money left for other goodies for at least 10 months (maybe 6 if I quit smoking and can convince the other half to do the same .... and pigs may fly too!!)

dd = daily driver ;)

No rush on goodies I reckon, all in good time :) A stock patrol will go places your raider wouldn't anyway

Shop around for a GQ with more bells and whistles althoudh it is a diesel with only 180 000. It would be worth waiting 6 to 12 months to accessories it.

I just got the sh_ts with all the $$$ people want for parts and fabrications.

You can pick-up an old B2600 from the auctions that's been rolled for around $1500. Go to a wreakers and they want $1750 to $2500 just for the engine. $3500 for a rebuild.

Change the engine? "we use to make conversion kits but..."

The head is "special" cause it is 12 valve, $1000 for a rebuild of the head thanks.

Diff ratio is 4.44. The auto model is 4.88 but "not too may made mate" so $1500 just for the ring and pinion ($3000 if you want front and back), fitting is extra.

Because it is not a "real" 4WD, tends to chew CVs, $220 each for a rebuild.

Diff locks... ha, "use to make them but not any more", or "in R&D right now but should have a front next year". That's cool considering a mate has had front and rear for his Raider supplied by the same company for the last couple of years.

Same sort of story for snorkels and cargo barriers, "yeah mate they used to make them but..." :silly:

SAS, not a problem, "just give me your first born, wife, wont need cloths any more cause your not going to have any arms or legs so we will just take the shirt too. And oh, do you have a house"??! :bad-words:

It is not a great feeling being asked to "leave your car here" because it might not make the track and stuff everyone's arvo/day of play.

The time has come to move along. I don't care what I get so long as it is cheap, will take a weeks worth of my camping gear for 3, cheap for parts, supported with reasonably priced aftermarket parts and easy to fix because I'm gonna play

The finance minister has said this is it. I break it, I fix it and if it cannot be made to play harder at a reasonable price. stiff. It will be my DD although I only do 70km a day during the week (34km each way to work and the odd trip to the shops. That said, it is not the family car and there is always the train to work so...

There was a GQ with lots of goodies in the For Sale section for about 12,500 didn't read it that closely, but could work out cheaper than buying stock and then paying for more goodies.

That was the plan but I can only fix, not fabricate (cocky s_it looks neater and is prob stronger then my welding). My budget is crap and thus the sub $10000 price in a replacement 4b (trade-in for the Raider plus $4000-$5000).

At present I just save for what I want/need, get it and then start saving again for the nex item.

AAHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Looked at a sh!tty 85 4 Runner. Turbo 2.4 desiel, diff lock, oil all over the place, interior crapp, 290000 showing on the clock, different tyres and 3 months rego. price $8990.

So what did they offer for my 93 Raider, 2.6lt uld, no oil leaks, 261000 on the clock and 12 months rego....... $3000 (maybe $4000)

After I finished laughing, I wished the dude a nice life and walked out!

I checked out a stock GQ today. Ramp-over was no better than a stock 2WD ute. A guy in my club also has a stock GQ and gets hungup quite often.

Don't know about stock GQs but the stock GUs drag their rear bumpers in washouts where even my stock Rodeo doesn't. I put it down to the GUs softer springs. GU ramp over seems fine though.
