Mix 3 parts spray putty with 1 part resin and it basicly the same as hurculiner. Add a small amount of fiberglass colouring and you'll be set.
What would the cost be for enough to spray the floor of a MWB Cruiser Approximately?
I have seen some companies that now spray a Poly Guard flexible rubber and it is really strong.
They did a test on a Polystyrene Packing Box. They coated it with about 5mm I think it was of this stuff, and once dry, they could stand on this box without it breaking.
If costs are good, I would like to do this myself as I have no roof on my rig.

You've got enough tech there to go on with, now for some non-tech. Spray it with some polyurethane foam (aerosol) and then you can shape it to suit. Paint it brown, add in some black artistic highlights, make it look like a big brown rock. Oh, and peanut paste is good as a CV lubricant.
Tech: you can buy some water based stone guard, can be built up thick and has a textured finish, then overcoat with whatever finish you like. Long nap roller and some roll on granosite can look cool...

Built, not bought.
I've just done the floor of mine with three coats of stone guard, its cheap, dries well and provides a little extra grip whilst not collecting as much crap as when sand is added to paint (have done that before as well)

grimbo wrote:just get me to paint your car, I've managed to achieve some amazing textures![]()
Could try throwing some sand into the paint to give it some texture.
Are you after grip or the strength/durability of a herculiner paint
Between us Grimbo it should look like a lamington !!!
Went to super cheap and grabbed 1 1/2 litres of motospray stone gaurd in black and a 2" roller , cost $30 we"ll see how it goes , you can aperantly piant over this stuff , so might do the sills in it to,-
Thanks for the input !!
Larry.
If ya want texture then use a house hold paint roller. I once painted a corolla in acrilic paint with a roller and it certainly was textured.
Advise: Only use a short hair roller the long hair rollers leave a rather ruff surface that will remove skin like an electric plained

Hey vitarajim,
Does the stoneguard in high heat start to go rubbery as in melting down slightly?
I had the rear of my MWB sprayed in some stuff (thought it was stoneguard) and when out in the sun, what ever was sitting on it, started sinking into it a little...

Spray putty will crack if it is applied that thick. Its only mean't to be applied a couple of hundred microns thick. Better off using stone guard, let it dry for a day or so, so its completely dry and then paint it.ISUZUROVER wrote:Yes, simply get some spray putty and paint it on with a sandblasting gun. But what about mixing it with some resin as LEXX mentioned, would that help at all?
Where are the experimental spray painters when we need them...

Apparently a good spray on covering would just be the K+H C Stone Solvent Based Spray. Goes on with a hell thick nozzle. 1 Litre should do about 4Sq metres, depending on thickness. It was only $18 at Autobarn, gun to spray it was $60, but might even go on with a degreaser gun.
I might buy some of this and have a play, it apparently coats to about 10 microns thick, that would be about 8 to 12 sheets of paper thickness (Approx).

I pianted the inner floor and sills and half the fire wall , I used a 2" roller and a brush for the tighter spots, At least the floor has a pretty uniformed texture over it now , so hope the actuall piant goes over the top without blistering or some thing , post a pic of the stone gaurd stuff

WTF?

A ream of photocopier paper is 500 sheets, and around 50mm thick. That would make one sheet around 100 microns thick. So what do you really get? 10 microns, or 8-12 sheets of paper? Significant difference...

Well thanks for clearing that up, who's a smarty then eh'...
But you did happen to miss the two words before that statement, but I highlighted them for you.
I was told it covers to about ten microns thick (I got no idea WTF that is) and when I asked how thick is that he said approx. 10 sheets.
But don't worry when I spray it, i'll be sure to pull out the micrometer for the thickness.

One thing I will be doing before hand is pop rivetting some sheet metal down in the footwells. Then spray over the top of it all.
That way you can hide the ribbing in the floor pan, and have a flat finish still.

16 years of painting cars tells me that i am right! In time it will crack. I have had to remove this from the inside of ute trays from people doing the same thing you have done. When it cracks it looks shit and is a bastard to fix.ISUZUROVER wrote:luxute wrote:Spray putty will crack if it is applied that thick. Its only mean't to be applied a couple of hundred microns thick. True, if not prepared properly. Clean the area well before hand. Even put some rust preventative down before the sheet metal. Then when you paint over the top of it all no water can then get in, unless you already have rust holes.
With the rubbery texture of 'Herculiner' and 'PolyGuard' it should fill in any little gaps between floorpan and sheet metal. But you would knock it into place nicely first.
