Engine TB42E Failure
Engine TB42E Failure
Driving back home last night my GQ decided to go BOOM on me and completely stopped , I managed to pull up on the side of the road and opened the hood to find some smoke and a very bad coming from the front on the engine where my air filter sits. I tried to start it but the engine felt like it wanted to jump out of the engine bay I guessing it is either the connecting rods or the crank shaft
Any ideas?

thought they were gear driven..
no timing chain.
Remove no1 spark plug and the tappet cover.
Rotate the engine by hand till no6 vavles are rocking.
Line up the engine timing marks on the front pulley and front cover.
Remove distributor cap and check where the rotor is pointing,it should be pointing at no1 plug lead.
Before you pull the head,if the diagnois is beyond you,pay someone to spend up to an hour checking it for you.Could be the best $50 you ever spend, cheaper than an unnessecary head gasket set.

Agreed.
If you're not sure... check with someone who is...
The differenece bad timing can create is the engine wants to run completely out of synch.. that can sound incredibly bad but is easily fixed.
It can be easy to fix or the damage can already be done.... however paying a bit of money (say $100) to find out before you commit to spending thousands is worth it.
If you cant do it yourself, or dont know somebody who you really trust to do a proper diagnosis pay for it.

The patrol is officially dead
The Pistons are broken and the crank shaft is damaged Pieces of the piston rings where sitting in the intake manifold when I opened her up
Apparently the timing chain broke and caused everything to go BOOM
I really miss her
I am thinking installing a TB45E instead of the TB42E or a V8 but I am not sure how reliable that is.
