Hey
The truck went on the dyno @ Diesel Tec in lilyale and was performed by andrew.
This was done this morning and produced the following results:
DYNO SHEET
This is with the 3" exhaust already fitted
74kw rear wheel only
Boost increase to 15psi and fuel adjustments
97.6kw
NOTE: This is with 35" MTR's and standard gearing 3.9
Cost$$$
$250 for dyno time and tune and boost and to mount boost controller in engine bay can be adjusted very easy.
$100 boost controller
total $350 +GST
= $385
Am very happy with results drives so much better am so impressed.
I think the price is very reasonable.
Have any questions dont hesitate to ask
Cheers
James

Re: 4.2TD mods & results
I reckon its a bargain!
Lettuce no how your fuel economy changes... More power requires more fuel..
Will see what denco come up with next week when I head to Wagga.

15psi is a lot for 97.6 kw trucky??
I had 12psi and 124kw at the rears of my GQ non intercooled.
If it burns, you can smoke it!!!
Well, pretty much the same figures I got out of the GU mate, say around 10kw less and that's with 12psi as well.
Got the dyno report laying around somewhere at home, will bring it in and stuff up another upload of a link.
John has a report on his wall of a GQ running 14psi non intercooled with 180hp at the rears, went like the clappers apparently!

Maybe it aint that good. Lookin at Safari site..
Real Power:
Installed on your TD42 diesel Patrol, the Safari Turbo System delivers a 41% increase in power output from 85 kW to a massive 120 kW . That certainly takes the russian roulette out of overtaking.

the tyre size size will alter the power output if the diff gears haven't been changed. morkz car is running 35's but probably with standard gears where as the other read outs are probably on standard tyres or cars that have had the diff gears done.

Thats all fair enough.
However i was informed if i wanted more power the next step would be to put more fuel in however i needed to get reduce air temp this would be done via intercooler. (possibly doing a front mount)
He also suggested about turbo mods i.e. different turbo and all thoughs GQ's out their wouldnt be running a standard nissan turbo they would be running somthing either custom from Safari, denco or even AXT or made their own turbo up.
Well from the upgrade that i've got i dont feel the need to get any more power change's nicely through all gears and has plenty of tourque.
Also keep in mind that i'am running 35" mtrs and 3.9 diff ratios and note different dyno's produce different results. This is the same dyno that alot of people get the petrol vehicles done which is by errol (EFI Dynamics) and everyone trust's errols reading. Like i said their dyno's out their which produce figures which are simply un true.

Hey Morkz
Sounds very impressive
i have done the exhaust looks like ill be heading down
thats about 30% power gain wif exhaust
Does it pull better from 15oorpm
mine seems a bit dead down low
How much boost are they running standard ??
Was the bloke that did it confident that it would be reliable
im in the same bout as you brandnew truck
your not worried bout warranty ?\
Thanks

Pulls much better down low even when i had the exhuast it didnt make much difference down low only top end. And the motor felt like it was struggling to breath from 2500rpm onwards. But now all the way to 3500rpm is so smooth.
MYV84B wrote:How much boost are they running standard ??
Not sure i think around 8-10psi
MYV84B wrote:Was the bloke that did it confident that it would be reliable
Extremely confident and he also stated that i'll have more power and that having the extra power i wont be puttting the right foot into it that much which should results in better fuel ecoonmy.

It's was touch and ago but my service manager from my dealership suggested that i do it so many customer do it and even that particular dealership do their own mods but they guy said we only turn on the fuel which makes the hotter yeah their is improvements but your better off doing the boost as well and getting a proper tune all of which the dealership dont have equipment to do.
Plus why wait to the end of the warranty in somthing that you know u want to do so many people do it been done for some many years as long as you dont go stupid with it you'll be fine.
cheers

You've got to remember.....3.9's and 35"s....imagaine what he'd do with 4.3's or 4.6's
Correct. Also remember its not all boost related, its fuelling and to some extent timing. Every one thinks boost is the go BUT it need fuel too.
Sound good to me.
Safari figures are at engine. Old graphs too.

Am interested in these mods but need the zorst first.
Cheers.
Make sure it's 3" all the way from dump pipe
put flex it so it wont vibrate so much and make sure u ask for double flex
also have the exhaust as bolt on i.e. have flanges so you can pull it off should you need to instead of cutting it apart.
mine was done like this at EXHAUST FIX in lilydale ask for MICk.
cheers

alright dyno sheet is now up so you can see for yourself some of the results.
i'll try and get a copy of boost/temp and you'll see that after the tune exhaust temp dropped significantly.
also all the results are at the wheels and their is generally a 30-25% loss from fly wheel so a rough estimate of results for the fly wheel are
torque
520nm approx
power
140 kw approx
based on 30% loss could be more could be less

Absolute power and torque figures from dyno's aren't really worth much. They are affected by tyre size, gearing, (including which gear they do thedyno test in), calibration, air temperature, etc. etc. What is good to observe is the relative change in power and torque for before and after. Looks like you did well. Other important things to know are in relation to EGT and emissions as indications of how efficient the combustion is and how stressed the motor is.

yeah i was told dyno test should be done in 4th gear most people do them in 3rd and get better results (but not sure results)
also am still waiting for an electronic version of my PSI/EGT
but my exhaust temps before mods were around 27.5-30 EGT and after mods they went down to 20.0 - 23
so infact i could get more some more power by putting more fuel but at least my motor will be running less stress if i dont add the extra fuel.
