Its not really the brgs that are or aren't designed to run in oil, its the seals. L/Rover runs their wheel brgs in oil whereas the army runs them in grease. Go figure.
Luv the sound of a diesel,
especially a Chev 6.2!
Its GONE.........Replaced by a qik HDJ105.

Some seals are grease compatable whereas some are oil compatable. Oil is more 'fluid' so the seal is 'tighter on the shaft. Also due to the make up of the grease (or oil) the rubber compound in the seal can break down.
Mack have also told me that they 'prefer' us not to use grease on the wheel brgs due to the seals being OIL seal & not grease seals. Mind you we still give them a smear of grease just in case the oil takes a while to get to the brgs & we havent had any seals give us trouble. (Except from ham fisted apprentices)

ok sweet man thanx..
i guess i should elaborate a little more and say that the bearings i am talkin bout r hilux front wheel bearings. and the oil i am talking bout is diff oil.
( BTW - i dont have leaky front axle seals and am worried if the oil has stuffed then bearings, i am planin on doing sum customisin and need 2 know if it can be done)
