New 4WD club in Melbourne

Post by highrr »

Hi their all.

Just a quick note to let you know that the Victoria Police has just started up a new 4WD club which is growing fast, and we have now just opened it up to members of the public.
The club has also just became part of the VAFWDC.

The club caters for all levels of 4wdriving with trips run through the week and on weekends. The club meets on the first Wednesday of each month in the city.

If any one wants more details please PM

Regards

Good onya guys for starting a club but opening it up to us Joe Average could brew up quite complex moral/ethecial questions.

Do you pip that guy for tyres being 10mm outside of the guard and get called a bunch of entrapment pri@ks

or

Do you turn a blind eye to that guy for tyres being 10mm outside of the guard and get called a bunch of cowboys not up-holding the law :?

With all the bad press of late for both 4WDs and police, it could make you guys easy targets.

Just as a foot note, in our club's meeting just gone, our president raised the issue of recent bad press. One comment made on one of the current affair shows was about the "Lawless 4 Wheel Drivers". As the show progressed, it turned out the the crime of these outlaws was.....

Talking on the mobile phone!

I guess the show producres don't get around Toorak or Rosebay much

Nev - do you knopw any coppers, as friends? I would guess you dont from your comments. Its like anyone who is knocked off from work, they are knocked off, they dont go around checking all the cars in the carpark when they go shopping to see who has un roadworthy tyres, they just do what we do. Go shopping and go home.

Exactly, their just like anyone else.
I've been out with a few and they were totally cool and if anything their trucks were far worse than mine if you were to nit pick about legalities and roadworthiness.

My cous was with Vic Police for some 20 years. One of the first people he booked was his old man! I have a number of friends that are either serving or ex-police. I totally agree that the vast majority are real people like you, me and the people down the road. However in any large group of people, there is always the odd one or two.

My point is not that they are out to get Joe Average anyway they can for any reason, it is one of public perception. They have a job to do like anyone else but because of their station in the public arena, they must be seen to be doing it by the book. Real people bend and massage the rules a bit from time to time but with the focus on both 4WDs and the police of late, I am just saying it could lead to awkward situations.

Good stuff. ;)

I reckon if there was ever an accident or need for assitance (god forbid), you guys would get a pretty good response time from emergency services! :D

they run some of the wildest trips.

ever seen a cop trip in wonangatta.

The cops I know that have 4x4, eg: GQ, 33*12 on 15.8, 100mm spring lift going to 150mm, 50 mm /lift, turbo, op-en 75mm exhaust, engineeers what are they.

probaly a safe way to go out with highly modded car, protection from the rest of them that are on duty.

If you want to get in early the Wonangatta trip is coming up in the middle on November for four days.

And we will also be fighting to keep tracks open for future four wheel driving.
