Email from a somebody at work - TYRE CHOICE...

This has come through the email at work, don't care if you don't answer, just thought it was good for a little laugh.

I mean for starters, it's a Pajero...

Secondly 99.8% road driving, why not buy a Commodore and hire the 4WD when needed...

I am looking to replace the tyres on my [color=red]Pajero with AT’s. I am looking for a recommendation, feedback (good or bad) or advice on the multitude of brands out there.

My driving pattern :
I do 99.8% road driving, a bit of gravel/dirt and a bit of sand. We sometimes tow an off-road camper trailer on all these surfaces. I do no hard-core off-road driving e.g. rock-hopping.

Size :
Looking at going up to 265/75R16 from 265/70R16. LT construction rather than P.

Current front runners :
BFG AT’s. Expensive. Have heard of vibration problems, difficult to balance.

Yokohama Geolanders AT’t. Apparently good on road and sand (my primary surfaces).

Bridgestone Duellers 694. ??

Primary considerations :
Safety on road (where I do most driving)
Road performance
Long-Life
Sand Performance
Price

Any comments or advice welcome ….

It's OK Meldge, we understand. You're just jealous that you weren't smart enough to buy a Paj.

Based on the owner's description of use, I think the BFG A/Ts would be hard to pass up. There was recently a recall on them (posted here too...) but that shouldn't affect new tyres.

Another option would be the Silverstone A/Ts - look and perform similar to the BFGs, for significantly less (last I saw) but I have no idea about wear rates.

Don't worry they did, and still do...

Just annoying that he doesn't use it offroad that often... I like to see all of the 4WDs going offroad a lot. We should suggest some Pedes or something like that and get him out in it more often...

at least he is honest about what he does with his truck and is looking for a tyre to suit

unlike some of the 4x4's you see around sydney with bar work dual tyre carriers and all the touring gear setup for that trip they dream about but never go on

Guys, I think this has really been taken the wrong way... I have full respect for people who ask questions rather than pretend like they know. Ask 83-Lux, I ask a shiteload of questions.

I would suggest the BFG A/Ts, but I did not know about the Recall on them... (Still Learning)...

Just looking at it, 99.8% of a year works out as 'almost' a full days 4WDing, he wrote it up really well. Just funny on the calculations.

I 'thought' that BFGs were really good on Kilometres so I would pick them, unless I had a load of other people tell me otherwise, and he is asking the questions which is good.

He wrote it all up very well, unlike most people because you get 20-30 posts of people asking more questions to find out this info...

My issue was that it is strange to see someone writing this up so well, and also seeing the estimated percentage of how often he uses it offroad.

Bridgestones, excellent value for money great both onroad and sand. Will struggle in the slop but dosen't sound like that'll be a prob.

I had a set of 31" D693s and was very happy with them as an all rounder, the D694s are the replacement for the D693s.

That was my e-mail that you find sooo amusing . I find it disturbing that you find my lack and of tyre knowledge and my questions amusing and have to share my incompetentancies with the rest of Australia . I was after genuine advice from what I thought was a respected tyre firm , how WRONG was I to have thought that a simple enquiry would turn into a comedy fest for you to get your jollies off on . Please remeber that it is people like me who me who keep you in a job and this is one sale that you will NOT be getting and I will certainly be providing feedback to your superiors and hope that you learn that sometimes it is better to keep you mouth shut . By the way , all of the above is totally not true . I am not the writter of the original e-mail . Just wanted you to shit and I do find it a low act to quote someones genuine interest in their tyre selection as funny .

I would suggest something like the coopers A/T's to him, they are pretty good from what i've seen
