Super Select Wiring

Post by Bitsamissin »

Well not having the super select IFS anymore I will be plagued by the dreaded flashing lights everytime I engage 4x4.
Thinking about this when 4x4 is engaged a signal is sent to the vacuum solenoids to release vacuum on the free wheeling actuator so it will slide across and engage the right side axle. At the same time a 12 volt signal is sent from the 4x4 ECU to the detent switch. The detent switch located in the hub assembly will get the signal that the actuator is in position and complete the circuit to light up the 4x4 dash lights. Now there is only the plug dangling there that plugged into the detent switch wiring so if I bridge it out (connect the 2 positive terminals together) the circuit will be instantly complete as soon as I engage 4x4. Therefore the 4 lights will come on instantly and stay on until I engage 2wd.
Is this too easy or am I missing something here ????

Hi Frank

You might be missing something - when I change back to 2WD the lights continue to flash until the front axle disconnects again, so I'd say that shorting out the switch won't necessarily fix your problem.

When I wired my front locker up I put an extra relay in, and earthed the coil through that switch. The way I had it wired also meant that when the ARB compressor was switched off the wire to the front switch was earthed through two relay coils in series, which caused the front lights to flash real quick in 2WD - so I reckon that wire is being checked all the time.

But all is not lost! A quick fix could be a simple vacuum switch to open (or close?) when you select 4WD.

Good luck,

Scott

Frank

you could run a relay off the centre diff lock or 4wd light switch on the T/C to short the wires on the front diff switch.

This should make the lights do what you want
