Cruiser or Rover transfer case

Post by slosh »

I'm still looking for a t/case with an offset rear output to replace my centre output Hilux case.

It will be matched up behind a Commodore V6 and auto- although I am still considering alternatives.

I was wondering about a bundera t/case- do they have same input shaft as a Hilux seeing as some of them had G52 gearbox?

The other one I thought of was the Rover one, but I know nothing about these... are they smaller than the Cruiser one (and so hopefully limit reshaping trans tunnel).... and would it be adaptable?

Another possibility is run Rover 8 with box and transfer.

What are your thoughts? Are there other alternatives?

Josh.

The rover LT230 is a very strong T-case, stronger than the hilux case. I don't know how they compare in size to a cruiser case.

A rover v8, zf auto and lt230 t-case would be a good setup (albeit more expensive than a commodore box and auto.

The fact that 3 of us (BJ, Ruff and Myself) destroyed 6 Toyota t/cases in the span of 3 or 4 months.

Now Ruff, Sam, and myself (and Rod soon) run V8 rover, ZF auto and LT230 and we flog the arse out of them and have not yet (touch wood) busted one!

It really depends on what your building!!

And also not trying to Big not myself but the fact that we did break Toy Cases does not meen you will! In fact i think you should be fine either way!

Slosh was talking about offset transfercases Disco. You are thinking of the centred Hilux transfercase The Landcruiser one which is offset is no more adaptable to Duals than the LT230, although Marks adaptors do make a 3:1 crawler box to bolt on the back of them at around $3000.

Read you guys ran Hilux t/cases, didn't know you ran Cruiser ones as well- are they the same strength?

Anyhow, super strength is probably not my main concern atmo- in fact the one I've got is probably fine... but it is nice to hear that the Rover setups are tough.

I will be crawling under a Rover soon with tape measure in hand.

Early 4 speed rangie has LT95 gearbox with an intergral transfer case, while this is the strongest box rover has made it is not IMHO practical for you.

Some other rangies have Borg Warner TC with viscous coupling. Stay away from these.

The transfer case to look for is an LT230, used on some rangies, discos and defenders. High range is not 1:1 in these and is lowest in defenders. These are full time 4wd and have a manual operated centre diff lock.

A late series transfer case may also be suitable. These are also strong and part time 4wd.

bundera uses the split landcrusier transfer, different to the hilux as far as i am aware although the bolt patterns are the same. i ran a lt1 corvette 350 and a standard bundy transfer in my last rig.

cheers mate bru
