Gearbox breather

Post by Utemad »

Hi all,

I'm after some info on the breather for the gearbox on a 1997 2.6L Rodeo. I have already fitted extended diff breathers years ago and at the time I intended to do the gerbox but couldn't get the little cap off the gearbox breather. I'm sure the right amount of force will do it but has anyone done it before and can tell me how they did it?

Also I have read that some vehicles have a gearbox breather and another transfer case breather. Is this the case on this gearbox? I can't see a transfer case breather but then again you can only just get to the gearbox breather.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks Noel.

I can really only feel my way around on top of the boxes.

I can just see the gearbox breather but it is a PITA to get to.

Ok I have had another really good look for a second breather on my gearbox/transfer case and I am sure there is only one.

What are peoples opinions on putting a T peice into the rear diff breather?

Should I just run another breather into the engine bay. I think I will do it this way as it means their isn't a 3 way join that will be under the water level sooner or later.

I fitted my gearbox extended breather today

I was itching to do something to my ute so this got the nod. Went to Bunnings and got some 10mm hose and went home and ripped that plastic cap off. I tried to prise it off with pliers and lever it off with a screw driver. I even tried to tear it off with vice grips. In the end I got it off in pieces by cutting it up with wire cutters. It's stuffed but it doesn't matter because it isn't ever going back on anyway.

I want to do something major to it but just don't know what :?
