AFAIK... springovers or extended shackles are not legal in queensland.

If your only fitting 33's... whip out the 9inch and cut the guards.

You could also do bodylift to fit bigger tyres under there.
Cheers,
Dan.

i see you have choped your gaurds a :?:
you got spring over any advantage or disadvantage with spring over
might just do body lift & springs less hassle then doing spring over conversion :?:

No mate i havent chopped the guards!
im not sure if they are standard but they look it.

but the boys were giving me crap about chopping them, cos the rear hits the guard, and the rear doesnt flex that well.

it was already sprung over when i got it, i have posey flex pics in the members section.

i think it rides rough, but flexes pretty well up the front, and gives good clearance.

but the ride should not have anything to do with the sprung over
that all comes to the spring pack set up
but for stabilty on rough stuff is it worth it or not :?:

ummm hard to say everyone is different and mine is no longer a daily driver.
so i reckon its great to be SPOA.

If nothing else, it has awesome clearance and looks nice!
but if your going to do it, while your at it, swap the springs around so the shackle is at the rear on the front, makes it smoother ride and also helps with approach angle, mine hasnt got that.

or dont worry at all and cut ya guards out heaps.

if you want to see a kicka$$ set up have a look on shorty40's profile.
his truck is tidy and im goign to get some spares off him on the weekend so i will take some notes.

Because you are in QLD SOA is out of the question (illegal), You could get a spring lift and play around with the packs (removing leaves, but you will loose some of the lift if you remove leaves).

Extended shakels are illegal in QLD but if there not huge you will probably go unnoticed.

Definantly chop the rear guards, there is heaps of overhanging metal in the wheel arches and if done carfully it will look good.

Body lift may be needed for 35's but cut the guards first then chech how much clearance you have for new tires.

Good to see another 40 owner :D

the ride does change a bit. because the forces on the housing itself have changed. there is alot more leverage being put on the springs.

usually you use a softer spring pack with SOA, because the extra height isnt needed.

cut the guards first. then get either 2 inch springs or 2 inch bodylift.

i ran saggy springs and 2 inch bodylift with 35s for a while. little bit of rubbing when hitting things real hard. cutting the guards would of solved that.

well you will have to let us know how they go.

what difference does it make to final ratio???

yeah i notice with the 35s crawling isnt really easy with the manual box, but hey its cheap and strong.

I've chopped the rear guards, the main leaves are extended, eye's rerolled to accept larger bushes, hangers may be dropped as well (was done on the truck before I picked it up), still spring under and I should be able to shimmy 37's in there with no body lift...

Cutting the rear guards will do the trick

You will have the clearance but not the added height ;)

if you only want to run 35's just cut the rear guards. U can use different model landcruiser shackles which are slightly longer than the 40 ones and no one will know and it will pass rego ok. On full compression the tyres will rub a little bit, but this is not a problem. If you use longer springs you will need to lengthen the driveshaft or use a spacer. But the use of longer springs isnt necessary for 35's

If you are looking for "budget" ideas, it doesn't get much cheaper than a 9" angle grinder disc  :D

Get the tyres on and 'cycle' the suspension and you will see where you need to cut (you have plenty of room to cut in the rear of a 40 ;) ) The front should be fine.

I wouldnt worry too much about big shackles atm or the longer springs, do the chop for now and see how it goes. 1 step at a time.
