im looking at getting larger tyres soon 37" claw or 36" simex
WHICH IS THE BEST WEARING TYRE?
will be going to the cape next year and need some larger rubber.runnin 4.88 ratios have currently got 35" claws actually34s .
would like to get into winch comps next year.
37" is 36.22 and simex36" 36.3 i think

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE SAME THING. HAVE A FRIEND THAT WANTS TO COMPETE BUT DOS NOT WANT TO BUY TWO SETS OF TYRES. SO WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD WEARING TYRE FOR ON ROAD ASWELL AS EXTREME COMPETITIONS.LEANING TOWARDS MICKY TOMPSONS FOR THE GQ WAGON.

Isn't 36" the biggest size you can run in comps run under CCDA rules???

Believe the CCDA limit size is 928mm x 343mm or 36.5" x 13.5".

rolling diameter - 35.43"
sidewall - 13mm
weight - 34kg
4 ply nylon

37x13.5x15 baja claw
rolling diameter - 36.22"
sidewall - 15mm
weight - 37kg
4 ply polyester sidewall
4 ply polyester and 2 ply fibreglass on the tread

Just some figures to help you out from a recent 4wdmonthly article.
I have not run the claws but have plenty of mates with the 35" variety and they seem ok but not as good as the simex in mud. Especially long downhill slippery sections where the claws fill up the pedes outer lugs stay clear.

I liked my 36" pedes, and only sold them as I was breaking too much and thought a change would be fun.

Have you considered the Q78's or 36" TSL's?

check out the lastest issue of australian 4wd monthly at the newsagents, they have a very good comparison section on these tyres plus more for on and offroad applications, very informative reading:)

I run claws for my all rounder tyre, ive tryed my mates new 36"pedes and they are great but could were out to quick if used all the time. Those silverstones look good for the price as a allrounder or just a off roader.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

The simexs may be better on the road as they have thoses 3 lugs down the center, giving u a allterrain type pattern on the road, but for off road i would go the 35.11.5 simexs, not much smaller than the 36s but have longer side bitters and bigger gaps between the center blocks.

i dont know about the 35 rule..wasnt carlton(wendle) engineered with 37s.
not sure but i read somewhere a while ago.
most of the 4wds inthis state dont even have there tyrs/rims on there engineers papers..the list can go on forever beadlocks/wheelspacers.
i would like to know what do u guys think will wear better..claw or simex as will proberly do 10 000ks on a trip next year and if the 35 rule is correct i will consider them.

I run 35 BFG Muds on the road and Simex Off Road. The money you save by not destroying the Simex driving to work more than pays for the extra tyres. It means you always have fresh tyres for serious work.

correct me if im wrong but, ive always thought the simex 36x12.5x15" Simex ET 2 is actually 36.3inches.

from memory 35x11.5x15 is around the 35.4" diameter.

Engineer approved on the road too.

as your in queensland claws are better..for LCMP etc :D

if you were in victoria i would go simex's...but claws are better for rocks/ dry stuff like LCMP and other parks up here..


and just to let you know.. 37 claws are a tiny bit bigger than 36 simexs..pretty similar though..

and you plan on running either of these tires to the cape? :shock:

I would take like BFG muddies...alot cheaper

What size rim?

I have had 35" and 36" simex and the 36's are a lot bigger.
I just mesured my 36's and they are exactly 36" or a touch under on 15x8 beadlocks.
From memory the 35's were exactly 35 or just under.

Actually here is a picture. 36" is not mounted so I am not sure how that changes the size.

yep will be looking at 35 muddies but would only buy the bfg if they were SUPERCHEAP as ive done 3 sidewalls with them..

Pedes are definetly best when it comes to offroad traction obviously but for a road tyre aswell? Your kidding right? Have you ever heard a freight train driving down the rd? you have? well than you've heard some extreme treckers cruising down the rd. Get radial claws mate. genuinely good on road and off.

The 36's are completely different to the smaller sizes on road.
They are whisper quiet in comparison to a 35 pede and very enjoyable to drive on road.

Read the 4wd monthly review.
They are probably the best all purpose tyre getting around at the moment in a size larger than 35.

Just wish my front end was stronger and I would hold onto mine. :(

That is a big statement to make :shock:

are you very sure about this...

I'm positive that the bogger is alot better offroad...and the Claw is better on rocks and dry stuff... They are all better in what they are made for...simex is the best in mud..and the bogger is proberly up there with it..

Also..pedes are weak in the sidewall...you see them getting steaked all the time....how many boggers or claws do you see getting steaked?? hardly any....

I would go the CLAWS :D alot better IMO :armsup:


btw thunder...did you just move to sydney?? i thought you wer eon the sunshine coast..(well that's what it said in your avatar didnt it)?
