UHF Microphone Cable Extension

Post by iwannabeapirate »

Hi All,
I've made up a cord to extend the cable on my UHF by about a metre. Unfortunately it seems that the microphone is extremely weak when using the extension cable. I have checked and all 4 wires are connected from one end of the cable to the other.

Is the length of the extension the problem? Do I need to amplify the signal somehow?

Cheers,
David

some mics do amplify signal. wouldnt have thought 1m make a difference, all depends on amplifier circuit tho

when you say weak, do you mean your voice isnt as loud to guy down the street or whatever on another uhf? did you extend whole mic cable or actually make an extension to join up? might be losing some power over extra joins if not good connectors i guess

It turns out that I had the extension wired up incorrectly. I had the wires going to the same spot on both the male and female ends when they need to be a mirror image left/right or each other. The extension cable works fine now.

David
