New gearbox noise.

The 40 had a gearbox wine, now it has a different noise, goes thump thump thump thump, increases in frequency as speed increases... what is about to let go?

hopefully not, may have a gearbox lined up for under $100, so mechanically, is there anything particular about these gearboxes that might sound like that.
