I have finished the 40 and planing the next car . I have purchased a 94 80 serries GXL which i am thinking of cutting into a try top ute which will get the weight down some bit . now the fun stuff
Gen 3 compared to the 4.5lt twin cam what would be weight difference?
then the standard 5 speed to the turbo 700 auto what would be the weight difference?
i am wondering if changing to the above would save a lot of weight over the front plus i could get the weight more to the centre of the car as the v8 is shorter. Plus this would allow me to do a few other thing i have in mind any thoughts please share thanks Darren

If you can not get there in a 4wd its not worth looking at
Dont go Gen3.. nice engine... try and get hold of a US 5.7lt Vortec.. far more reliable engine... however it is cast not alloy so it will be a bit heavier. Or maybe super-charged diesel? low down torque with no turbo lag....
I can see it getting way off track to easy what if i turbo and intercool the standard 4.5lt petrol that is in it ? and leave the standard gbox and tcase that was the origional plan i only was changing from the origional plan trying to get the weight down any thoughts ?

Its been in 3 off road races and is simply awesome. I scares to S%&t out of the other 4wds and most of the buggy classes. its done some 3500kms under full noise and they are light and easy to get horsepower out of
Oh yeah Alt is 140amp and parts are cheap ( compared to landrover v8)
