What do u reccomend.....engine upgrade
Firstly, congrats on a great forum........
I recently purchased a 1984 jackaroo 3 door with a 4cyl motor.........as far as im aware its the original and has clocked a touch over 300,000.
Its not blowing smoke and actually runs excellent, however it lacks grunt and while i havent attempted to tow the boat yet........I suspect its gunna struggle.
So what are my options and what sort of costs are involved with each option???
I am able to do most of the work myself.
Thanks in advance and hope to be arround here for many years to come.
Cheers.

No worries...........actually i just did a quick measure and it will be very hard without a major rebuild of the front end........there just isnt enough length.
Think Im limited to V6 or maybe Deisel????
UPdated..........Well I have just done some more research and discover that it is in fact possible to put the straight 6 in.........I have to ring a company tomorrow to discuss adapter kits and what else is required.

Hi Topcat, welcome!
JackEroo World say that they can supply the Holden straight six adapter kits but these are probably already supplied to them via Marks adapters.

Not sure but the conversion may only be possible with a full engine and transmission/t-case swapover. ie: straight six mated to a toyota gearbox/t-case.

Thx for that........I will contact Marks and have a chat.
As for Jackaroo World..........I would not reccomend them to anyone.
They are nothing but a bunch of rip off merchants and the service to there customers is non existent.........unless u are preapred to pay for it through the nose.
If you want to ask any sort of question, they charge you $60.00 per hour.
Complete and utter bunch of wankers.

Thats interesting. I has never dealt with them personally or heard much feedback about them. You obviously know better then...
Still its good that they do provide some free info on their site.
I have also seen Jacks with the straight six conversion for sale in the papers at various times so someone definately does the conversions.
Cheers,
Noel
PS: We used to have some other 1st gen Jack owners on the site (greazy etc) but they seem to have gone awol of late.

Excellent........would love to meet up with some, thats for sure.
I was looking through the Owners handbook and was shocked to find that there was a heap of info about the original owners........sold to a couple in Bathurst (One of my favourite places in the world) and it does in fact still have the original motor in it..........309,000 klms later and still starts first time every time and also still no smoke which really amazes me.
Very little to no rust and seems to be a very sound vehicle all round.
It does have a new roof courtesy of the big hail storm a few years back but otherwise its original.
It actually looks pretty much brand new maybe a year out of its box.........lol
Re Jack world......yeah I was impressed with the site also and it is good they give a few free tips........so graciuous of them.
Love ur part of the world also.........went there some 25 years ago in a mini van with a couyple of mates and had a ball............hope to be back there soon.

Go diesel!!!! A Rodeo 2.8 or Jack 3.1. Early diesel are boat anchors and tend to go BANG with very little effort. The 3.1 would be my pick....
Or if petrol is what your after, a 3.8 Commo V6 would be good. They seem to be bolted into everything else...
