Inclining Radiators

Post by Hybrid »

Hey guys was just hoping to get some thoughts on mounting a radiator in a vertically sloped position. I understand the air flow characteristics would be changed but that can be redirected. What I really want to know is if anyone has done this and at what angle it would still operate in regard to coolant flow. I was hoping I could slope mine at 45 degrees to cut down the vertical height and to get at airflow under the truck as it will be rear mounted.

cheers

the one in my brothers drag car is on about this angle / . it works ok, except it is hard to fill, as the filler is on a pipe, which normally sticks into the engine bay, but now points down, and is lower than the top cores of the radiator. it is held in by 2 6mm bolts. we undo it, stand it up, fill it, cap back on, then lay it back down. air flow will be restricted, but you will run fans anyway. look for an electric booster pump, as it will need to pump heaps, to go to the back.

there is an optimum angle for cooling which I am sorry but I can not remember, though I feel it is 15 degrees back from vertical.
At this angle cooling is supposedly improved.

due to air flow, but that doesnt matter, as it is rear mount.
