Speedo

Post by Kell »

Guys, does anyone know what it costs to get the speedo fixed? Mine shait itself yesterday so until it goes in next Monday for a service I have to guess my speed. Is there anyway I can check and maybe give it a quick fix myself?

yeah.... the speedo is cable driven from the gearbox. Like a brake cable off a bike type thing. The inner cable rotates by a gear in the gearbox, routes up to behind the dash. This cable can break, hence not turn all the gearing in the dash, so it doesnt work.

You can check this by undoing the cable from the gearbox side. Its easy to locate - on the lower, rear end side of the geabox, you'll see a cable coming down into the gearbox, with a large (about 40mm dia) 'lid'. If you can undo this, you should be able to CAREFULLY remove the inner cabling. Check for breakages. Put back together. Expect some gear oil to come out.

This is from memory, its been awhile sonce I've been under a feroza.

EDIT: I've never replaced one, but I wouldnt imagine the cable would be too expensive, but then this is daihatsu....
