Hey guys. Just bought a 83 SWB Pajero and have a few questions. Car has come with suspension lift, body lift, set of sunraysias with 31x10.5r15 pirelli scorpions, roll cage, 2.6 petrol motor bullbar, towbar etc etc etc. Now im not sure exactly what size either the suspension lift or the body lift is, i have a spare larger body lift to go on as well. Is there anything I should be looking out for in the suspension department with these lifts? I dont know a hell of a lot about 4wd's i know a little but not this sort of stuff. Any help is much appreciated! Cheers

Hi Ben, Welcome to OL.
Sounds like you've got quite a toy there. What do you plan to do with it?
The easiest way to work out "how much" lift you have is to compare with original specs, or against a stocker. Because you have both suspension and body lift working out how much of each is a little trickier.
You say it already has a body lift. If you stick your head underneath you should be able to find 8 points (4 each side) where the body is spaced off the chassis. Between the two there should be a black rubber vibration damper, and the body lift block (which, to be legal in Qld, should be made of metal - not plastic.) The length of the spacer block is the size of your body lift - easy, huh? Again, if all is legit, the vehicle should have an approval certificate from Qld Transport (not an "approved person") for the body lift. Any body lift over 50mm will not be approved in Qld. If you're planning to go bigger, ask yourself why? You don't need any body lift for 31" tyres, and you may find the existing lift already allows larger. I'm not sure how a 2.6 will perform with anything much larger than you currently have.
In the suspension department, the car has independent front suspension with torsion bars, and a live rear axle with leaf springs. The front pretty much limits how far you can lift your suspension - once you go beyond 2" you need to start trimming bump stops and performing other mods, so again it helps to understand what you're trying to achieve. The rear can be lifted further by a variety of methods (both legal and otherwise) but if you lift it too much more than the front it starts to look silly, and can introduce handling problems. The swb has a short tailshaft, which soon starts to run at horrible angles (and induce vibration) if you lift too far.

Thanks guys. Thanks Scott for the information will be handy in the future. Can anybody supply me with some details on this model at all? ie typical mods weight dos and donts etc etc etc? I dont think it was a ex wynns truck, the previous owner was doing it up I think and got bored with it...... Cheers Guys
