V6 Engines

I found this comment on the Jackeroo World website.

Are they discussing V6s in general or specifically the Jackaroo one????

These engines seem to be reasonably reliable but the most common complaint is lack of power at low revs which means for city driving and four-wheel driving drivers are forced to slip the clutch to get the vehicle off the line. This problem is worse in the earlier versions as later models have had modifications made to their computer module with some improvement. Nevertheless, in our view, the high-revving V6 engine is really better suited for use in a car or on the open highway than for a heavy 4WD vehicle where plenty of torque is required for slow work, towing etc.




Also Im interested in peoples opinions on 4cyl vs 6 when it comes to hill climbing or for that matter any 4WD work......... Does the 6 have a huge advantage or is it in fact more to do with clearance and tyres and driving ability etc.

Probably talking about putting commodore engines in 4x4s perhaps ?

I have heard this criticism of the V6 when the put them in rovers and other similarly sized/weighted 4x4s. Of course I could be talking out of my a$$

i've got a v6 commo motor in my lux and it has very little low down tourque but it's more than the old 3y ever had!

but overall it was worth doing the conversion.

You can change the torque and power spread of any engine with a good cam and a timing set with the ability to advance or retard. Dunno if this available for the commo engine tho.

As far as the Jackaroo, drive one and see.

Like any motor i suspect if you gear it wrong it,ll suck .

But i have heard the Jack motors are a little peaky .

I'd say they were talking Jacks, used to drive with one a couple of years back and he was forever stalling it trying to crawl over stuff, nice and revvy but bugger all torque down low.

The 3lt V6 that I have in the Triton is pretty good down low. IT has a flat spot wrt torque just off idle but it has heaps of pickup from about 1200rpm.
