Jimny power steer on a sierra
A question for those who have done this,
I have lots of right lock but not much left
which pitman arm did you use?
if I re-centre the Jimny one, the tie rod looks as if it will be a bit short.

I assume you are centering it with the weight on the springs, and not jacked up....Our Joey centred his while jacked, when it settled, he had similar prob....tho his is vitara pitman on cressida p/s box. It too late for brain to think of anything else, christover

Yes Chris, sitting on the ground, I am sure all I need to do is re-centre the pitman arm and adjust the drag link, I am asumeing there is a double spline or similar to locate the pitman arm on the shaft, so I will have to do a bit of machining

If you're lucky it will be just a simple tapered spline, you can just pull it off, spin it around and whack it back on in desired position. It will take a mighty pulling tool to remove it, tho. adjusting the drag link isn't possible on mine, but maybe newer ones are adjustable..Joey fitted an adjuster to his..I think you just need to centre steering wheel, and refit the pitman arm in the place where ya drag link reaches when wheels are straight. ..I'm assuming nothing will be in the way of the pitmans arc, but I not stared at spoa enough. christover

I know that Vit pitman arms are not indexed ( just reset critta's)and I am 99% sure that sierra ones arent either. I would be surprised if jimny arms are indexed.
I know Hummers are indexed though.
To remove a pitman arm you will need a puller, and it is best to apply very localised heat with a torch to one side only of the pitman arm. It will release readily. ( I;m sure you already kow this pete, it was for general knowledge)

I haven't done it, but my 1300 has multi v belts on it..its a import engine G13B, probably from a swift/barina...so it may be worth looking at that option...the swift /barina alternators are better, cheaper, more common and less mudded by sierra owners, too christover

very easy to bolt on the pulleys .. simply stack em together, the pulley on the pump is pretty easy to swap as well

love_mud can you tell me more? My 1300 has single v pulleys with the double pulley on the crank. Idealy I would change the one on the pump any ideas what to get one off? The other idea stacking them what would I do for that? I have a sinlgle pulley for the crank laying around did you mean to double that up with a multi v type pulley? Thanks for any info you can give.

Get a front micro V pulley from a vit motor, bolt it up to the crank .. (replace the front pulley on the crank .. its not currently being used is it ? )

No im not using the outer most pulley on the crank. Do you mean replace all the sierra ones to match the vit pump? Or replace the double crank pulley with a single pulley and then bolt a vit one to that to have a single v on the inside and multi v on the outside. Sorry to be a PITA but i dont know anyone thats done this so im at the mercy of the forum readers
