I remember seeing these in a 4WD magazine quite a few (15+?) years ago. From memory the Australian Army were looking at them, the biggest hassle is disconnecting from the engine when not in use. They were geared to run efficiently at (or near) engine idle speed, and would suffer significant damage if run at "normal" engine speeds.
From memory, performance was significantly better than any of the 12V compressors available at the time (as you'd expect), but I don't know if pumps like the Twin Tongue were around back then.
These days I'd be looking at a modified AC compressor.
Cheers,
Scott

Magnum engine driven air compressor used a manual clutch for freewheeling when required, but an electric clutch was also available. YOu'd have to lift the bonnet to disengage it. They worked very well and came out around the same time people were just starting to use air con comps for pumps. V design can make fitting difficult..

Engine Driven Compressor
I have an engine driven compressor in my Series 3 SWB - they are modified AC compressors, cost about $300 and are not rare in Melbourne. Fitting them can be tricky - expensive - it is often cheaper to get someone who is good at that sort of thing to make up brackets rather than but them.
The company that 'makes' them is called Endless Air and they advertise in 4WD magazines but if you want contact dtails email me and I will lok them up in the telephone book.

From what I have seen, the Endless air is just a used A/C compressor painted, tapped and fitted with a grease nipple. Much cheaper to go to the wreckers and pick one up

i have access to a coulple of these and will try to set one up on my zook
it will be operated by electric clutch and will be connected to to switches
the first will be a pressure switch
the second will be a swith that cuts out over 1200 rpm
and will see how it goes basically just have to stop and let the car idol and than you would have 5.5 cfm which can run rattle guns and wat not
if i get this set up and sorted may be selling it as a kit which all you will need is some custom brackets for mounting and belt
