Increasing Boost

Increasing Boost
I have a Import Prado 2.4 TD (2LTE I think) & was just reading about a Hilux Surf in the current 4wd monthly mag.
He is apparently running 10psi boost & has a very similar engine to what I have. :o
How would I go about increasing my boost & what are the repercussions

any tuning shop will charge you from $80 to a couple of hundred dollars, and you will NOTICE the difference, and you can instruct them what you want too
best to have a professional just "tune" it for some more power and a little more boost, and the repercussions wont be that bad, if any!

hands and mums dont count!!!
quick and dirty tip: you cannot adjust anything on the fuel pump on the 2L-TE, and the electronics are not tuneable. the computer probably has mappings for up to 10 - 12psi, no guarantees though.
to increase your boost for free, you can use washers to pack out the wastegate actuator - each 1mm of packing will give you about 1psi peak boost increase. probably not a good idea to exceed 10 - 11psi with the stock CT20 turbo, as turbos go it is pretty ordinary.
there are probably internal mods you can make to the 2L-TE pump to increase fuelling but I haven't pulled one apart yet.
the 'proper' way to increase boost is with an electronic or mechanical boost controller, these are beteween $80 - $1000 depending on features and quality, and easy enough to install yourself.

has any one played with a safari turbo set up on a GQ patrol 4.2 diesel?
I've got an intercooler too .. still lookin for more power

not specifically, but the principles are identical for any turbo diesel. to increase boost, fit a boost controller (generally these work by bleeding air from the wastegate actuator line) - you can make one with a tee piece and a small inline valve - or maybe the safari turbo already has one, but I doubt it. you will need a boost gauge and ideally an EGT gauge to tune it correctly - if you increase boost you need to adjust your fuelling to take full advantage of the extra air. I would not exceed approx 12psi with that motor, and your EGT should never exceed 650C - 600 is better. any hotter than that and you are guarantted to be damaging all the hot-getting bits - turbo turbine, exhaust valves, injectors, precombustion chambers, head, piston crowns, etc. have a read of:
