seriously thinking of running the 4runner on duel fuel however the system i want to use is not in australia yet and very expensive to get from the uk. so who is using a lpg mixer system on their 4wd and what sort of milage are you getting better compared to petrol? the reason being i went to a wrecker around the corner and he has quoted me 330 buck to pull as much of a gas system off a 4runner as i want or 220 bucks just for the tank, it is a impco system so i think it should be worth it.

I don`t know how much mileage on fuel i get but on gas i get 200klm+ out of a 60l tank . Pretty good for the size of the motor and truck it`s pushing.

Pull it out yourself if you can, don't bother taking the gas line (from the tank the to converter) as you need to replace it anyway ($37 for 6m IIRC)
pull out the tank, take the brackets and plating from underneath, take all bolts and brackets you can, grab the lpg switch, safety switch and pinch a few 4 pole relays while you are there.

Then offer him $300 all up in cash and you should have a deal. I have only played with gas on Landies and Rangies so I don't know what the EFI setup and bypass is going to be like. On early 90s rangies and discos the timing is mechanically controlled so it all still keeps happening when you turn the injectors and fuel pump off - I don't know what you 4runner is going to do - so I figure put in all the gear and get a gas bloke to finish it off

went down today and pulled it all out, ended up getting the supply line too allthough it was a real bastard to get out. might end up replacing it yet. don't worry grabed everything i needed and more:) will have a go at fitting it tomorrow except not sure about the wiring as it went everywhere and someone had already cut some wires.

there should be a control box with 4 connections

+12v
ground
-coil
solinoid

thats all thats needed

i split the 12v line to a relay that cut my fuel pump to turn the fuel off and the rest is self explanatory

if the car was/is efi ive got no idea how to do it

The back of my control box is clearly marked. Has the fuel guage input for the gas too. FYI I'm getting 18L/100km on gas on the HWY with a 5L Holden V8. Power is down 7% and torque down 5.5% when using gas so I guess that'll tranlate to efficiency.

I had an old IMPCO system bafore I replaced the engine. Looked pretty simple. The current Sprint system wires into the EFI as part of the closed loop system (I think) so its a little more complex.

Maybe speak to a fitter about what fiddly time consuming stuff you can do to save $$$ and what he'll need to do for it all to be approved.

talk to the dude that is gonna certify it for you before you start. find out all the rules and regs. other wise you might end up doing the job twice.
if the supply line is solid (copper) pipe, piss it off and exchange it for flex line. much easier and neater.

In some states the copper line is now ILLEGAL to fit, older systems are sposed to replace the copper line when the tanks are retested and issed with a new compliance date.

The problem with copper is that it becomes "work hardened" over time thus allowing it to fracture.......... obviously a LPG leakage will result.

4X4's have a chassis where 99% of cars do not, the chassis and underbody of a 4x4 often move seperately and if the line is copper and has been poorly installed then it will break much sooner.

Wendle is 100% right..... fit a flexy line for both the filler and feed lines.

Copper hose is still legal here in Qld as far I know, anyway don't re-use it, it gets very hard with age and will break very easily - Trust me buying a new one is easier and cheaper - would be 10 times more flexable when they are new vs one that had been there even a year.

But as the others have said, talk to a gas shop and a fitter and see what they would do and then copy it. On my rangie the line is secured to the body of the car the whole way down the car, that way the chassis can separate and cause it to split it will still flex a bit but it shouldn't leak for a long while yet, and when it does you will know all about it.

if your car is efi dont shut down the fuel pump as u will fuck the injectors
so cut into relay for the injectors to stop them fireing also if u have your injectoer runing with no fuel gas will not idle well if u dont know what u are doing get someone else to do it for u :lol:
