My 98 3.5 Monterey is coming up to 100,000k, at which time the book says a tappet adjustment is needed, and the scheduled service time is 7 hours or so. This sounds like it will result in a rather large labour bill at the local Holden dealer.
How mysterious is the process? Is it possible for a reasonably competent person to at least remove the rocker covers and check the clearances?
I'd be interested in any opinions on this topic.

Jackaroo 3.5 tappet adjustment

I work at a dealership, and we do a few rodeos. i know the foreman usually gives it to the better tech's. unfortunatly there is no easy way out, as it all has to be done by trial and error. we have a kit with all the shims in it.
as to you second question, they will need adjusting, they all do. if you dont, you will expect less power, and can burn out the valves.
