Hey guys.
I am getting into the early stages of organising next year's Logan Challenge. And, I want to hear from past competitors, or new competitors, about any ideas they have, or would like to see in next year's event. I am open to all sorts of suggestions, but please bear in mind that it is a 5-car team event, based on bush survival.
Any suggestions/comments would be appreciated.

I would have to agree with 83 lux
I don't think it is a good idea to have people eating things they would not normaly eat, in that quanity and still compete in a 4wd Event.
But it was beter than the year before( More Driving )no offence to previous organisers intended
and keep the same format for the GPS stage.

You blokes should patent that GPS format. Best GPS run I have ever done including Gold Coast 2000 and Outback Challenge, well done Shane.
The more driving aspect was definitely a good thing and the SS's were better all round but the GPS is what sold it. If you were having a crap weekend it allowed you to finish on a high and forget some of your woes for a while. I would probably say that the degree of difficulty and the amount of driving should remain about the same.
The only comment I do have is that you should stick to the rules. There were a few grumblings about some tyres that were clearly outside of the alowable size limit. As it turned out it had no impact on the result but if you state a size limit stick to it.
I am sure it will be great Marshy and on behalf of the One Track Team we are looking forward to defending the title.

Pinball, the event is based on an off-road trip gone horribly wrong. Everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong. I guess it's kind of like a mini-Outback Challenge, but with 5 cars in a team. It involves hard driving, winching, team-work, first-aid, GPS navigation, orienteering, etc, etc, etc.

Thanks Brett. Yeah, look, I've had about a 50-50 response from competitors about the food stage. I think we will drop it for next year, but that doesn't mean to say that we definately will, or that it won't make a comeback in future events. I'd just like to change the stages up a bit from this year.

Andy, we'd love to be able to take the credit for the GPS format, but the simple fact is, we can't. It was an idea gained from MMM himself. He used a similar format at the 8-Day Xtreme winch challenge. We just modified it to suit our event. But, I should think the GPS run will stay on that format, I've had a LOT of very positive feedback about it.
Yeah, Andy, I can appreciate your query on the set of tyres in question. But, at the end of the day, I accepted them, 3 weeks out from the Challenge by arranged viewing, because it meant the difference between that team being able to field a team, and having yet another team have to pull out. The tyre height was fine, but the width was outside specification. I inspected the vehicle, and he had made the effort to ensure the guards were covering the tyres, which they were. Although we were fairly leaniant on that, your team not excluded. So, as a past organiser yourself, I'm sure you can appreciate the position I was in. I allowed the vehicle to run, because I thought it very harsh to stop a whole team being able to compete, because one vehicle's tyres were an inch and a half too wide.
Oh, and, maybe spell your team's name right hey?? ON Track Team.

G'day Simon, Davo here from Team Confusion. I definatly agree with the GPS run format. Definatly something our team will be looking forward to next year. I'd like to see something for the spectators maybe. Maybe a sperate pack per team for their supporters detailing where the stages are, instead of them driving around blindly. Don't know how you would stop the cheating aspect of it though.
Maybe incorporate some more bush skills into an SS. Starting a fire using flint and striker or erecting a tent/shelter etc. A good light hearted stage is good to pick up the morale of teams if they have done a bit of vehicle damage.
Ideally i'd like to see tyre size restricted to 36" seeing as the event is as ppl say, a supposed camping trip etc gone wrong. Just my opinion on cars that you would use as a daily driver so to speak.
Some better communication with teams during the morning during your official brief. We were all standing around wondering what was happening. I know you had problems with officials not turning up. Maybe if every club competing could supply 1- 3 ppl to assist as part of the team rules.
Overall we were pretty happy how it was run.

At this stage Ian, no, we won't be requiring roll cages. The only way this will change, is if our insurance policy demands it next year. We have heard nothing to say we need it so far, so I'm not worried about it.

we will be back again this year. I think bring back the gorge track night stage like the year before, it was good for spectators etc and if you do it as a 2 vehicle run then some of us might get a chance to repair vehicles the night before. try and make the driving a bit more technical, maybe reverse though witches hats on a rutted track. food stage is ok with me, but the perri perri sauce wasn't hot enough
