Wheel mounting surface.
Get a Ruler or similar and hold it against the rim then measure the gap between it and the wheel mounting surface.

no i know what is happening here, drafty had no clue what WMS meant, so he clearly has no idea, you measure from bead seating area to WMS and just measured outside of rim to WMS
DUDE, measure from
bead mounting surface to WMS and get back to us
Carlton, aus laws are WRONG!!

hands and mums dont count!!!
thats a 8" wheel from bead seat surface to bead seat (your second picture shows this very well)
again i am correct, and i never implied your WMS was an inch thick
measure the total rolling diameter of your rim, ill bet you get like 17" or more
and remember it aint a 17" its measured again from bead seat area to bead seat, so yeah, pretty easy once you have it figured, i meant a frontal picture of the rim but looking at them if they are from an 80 series, id say mid 1990s GXL wheel, 16"x8"!
