has anyone ran these tyres on their 4x4?
they are light truck tyres, not common but a massive 14ply and fit standard 16 inch split rims.
855mm diameter, 225mm wide

Ran them solidly for a year and found thm to be excelent, mind you the market range of tyres back then was limited.......... ok so more like SFA !
They gave a little extra height clearance and did have a small effect on fuel ecconomy. Biggest problem these days is the cost of em compared to the "availiable every where" 750x16.
I still have a set here that at a push may pass a RWC and they have done a heap of outback miles, somewhere in excess of 40,000ks
I recon they are the ducks thingys for that "around Aussie trip with the missus & dog towin the van with a boat ontop " we all plan to do when we retire from this daily trudge...

When I was looking for new tires that is exactly what I wanted!!
I was after tall skinny tires that looked to be half decent and agressive without being over the top. There is a red 80 Series in QLD but rego'd in NSW with some 39 inch Michelins (I think) on it. Kush??
How do they compare in price compared to say BFG's or other similar brands?

i know that some okas run them but never seen an oka down the local beach.
in the 8.25x16 size with an aggressive tread you can get the toyo M504ZP http://www.toyo.com.au/ motorway does a few http://www.motorway-tyres.com.au/p225.htm and hankook does the Z59 http://www.hankooktyre.com.au/V2/produc ... tr&id=1110

I ran the "DUNLOP Super Gripper" in the 825x16, also have the same tread pattern in 750x16 Dunlop.
They didnt suit the sand overly great as they are an "aggressive pattern" tyre but because if the thick sidewall rating ( 8ply ) they were fantastic on rocky tracks one finds outback of the outback.
Punctures did happen but the super grippers recorded only 3 or 4 punctures compared to a dozen + for those vehicles on say desert duellers or the like.
Mine have some very nasty nicks/cuts that certainly would have resulted in a flat if it wasnt for the sidewall thickness. I would have had to replace 2 or 3 tyres ( as others did ) had I have run the more "sporting 4x4 tyres. I did get ribbed about them at the start but on the next trip there were a lot of others using em too..... I think that it had something to do with the time spent fixing the more common 31x10.5x15s compared to the splitrim job.....
