engine flooding

Post by bainswor »

HI everyone,
I have a 77 2dr range rover evrything fairly standard engine wise it has a holley carb. It is running on gas, and lately when I have been sitting ideling for about 30 seconds or more, the engine or something seems to flood. I cant take off it will just conk out. If it is not to bad I can rev the engine a couple of times, and it will splatter and then rev smoothly and I can take off. Or if you turn the engine off it wont start again very easily because it will have flooded. Rolling down a hill and bump starting it seems to clear it it most times also.

Any ideas on where to start looking?

Kind regards Barnaby

Do you mean flooding on petrol ? The lpg wont flood so to speak but wont ignite if too rich, if the problem occurs on petrol then try replacing the needle and seat in the carb and check the power vavle, if its a gas problem then it could be an air lock in the converter causing icing up or a build up of gas solid which will gum up the vavles and diaphram of the converter.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

Hi
Yeah sorry it is happening when it is on LPG, could you just explain that a little bit further. I am new to the LPG thing. Is there anything I can do to try and fix it?

occasionally if in confined space like a garage and it happens, once it is cleared and it starts there is a strong gas smell for a bout 20 seconds outside of the car.

Regards Barnaby
