FYI Toyota made and imported a very small number of SWB 'luxes.

They were all gen 1 shape, single cabs. I believe they were something like 8 inches shorter than a standard lux? Just imagine a '80 lux with 8 inches cut out of the chassis and tray.

Yeh they were from 79-80 with round headlights.

18R with 4 speed box, the tray had external locks (one on each side of the tailgate)

I wouldn't mind buying one if one came up, they're as rare as these days, I haven't seen one for a long time.

the last one I saw was at Kangaroo Valley NSW.

The bodies on the 79-83 series are much stronger, as they use a thicker guage steel than anything else!

One in Wollongong, has a motor out of Toyota Dyna, 4.8 diff gears, Rockhoppers in the transfer, is orange but don't know the dude who owns it, is a weapon. They look like a Gen 1 lux.

The model was RN36, we only got petrol ones in Aus.

The normal hilux 4x4 was a RN46 or LN46.

Always wanted one, but now i got a 40#

I'll do some bragging. I just brought an RN36. Im in NZ but I figure it still counts. its been holden v6erised and has the auto box. the adapter to the hilux transfer is a bit dodgy though. I think it must be a home job, it all certified and road legal though. of the four bolts tha go into the back of the auto only two are exernal, ie you have to remove the exhaust and transfer case to tighten the other two, dumb. The gen 1 cab shape sure is cool and it is a good wheel base to, a couple of inches shorter than a rigid axle (84-85) surf. Anyway despite the rust and oil leaks she is a thing of beauty and like any beautiful thing, a whole lot of fun as well.

I owned one in Cairns about 8 years ago & i think it is still up there. It was painted purple with holden 6 , 5 speed body lift & 35's. I built it from a bare chassis. Only trouble i had was trying to find a fuel tank as they are shorter.

Hey Russ I have mailed the pics to you, if you want I'll send some more once the truck is mobile again and I have taken more pics. At the moment the box and transfer are out of it as the adapter needs a bit of attention and I have to build new cross member/box and transfer mounts as they were not well thought out. I notice you have a warn 8000 winch, would you be able to tell me some measurements for how it mounts as a front bar will be in the future and I would like some dimensions so I can design a bar. Cheers.
