Electrical trouble
Electrical trouble
Yes, I know it should be in the elec section but I've had no response to it there so...........
Wired up my spotties (IPF 8000s) using Piranha loom. Wired it up the way I've done a few other sets, but it just isn't playing the game.
On highbeam, spots work the way they are supposed to....
On low beam, spots stay on........
On park lights the spots stay on.......
I realise the headlight set up is negative earth, so I tried all three wires to use as the pickup, with no luck.
Also tried wiring the two outside pins together, blew the headlight
Found this, but it doesn't say how it was fixed

Any other ideas I can try

back in the day when i dreamt of a suzuki that would travel fast enough to actually need spotlights, I got an auto electrician to hook some up for me... he used the dash lights as the input switch for the relay... i would suggest doing that.
now-a-days, I just work on the assumption that i drive slow enough for the kangroos and wombats to move out of the way before i get them.

i know the feeling, i spent almost a whole night trying to work it out.
i wired my spotties up from the highbeam wire just behing the headlight. i can't remember which one it is, but i can find out tomorrow, and if you want a pic, i can get you one.
i take it you're using a relay system.... unless its something else, i'm not sure.
i think i'll just get a pic for you.

wiring straight to the battery is illegal. and i think i'm in one of the slackest states (terrirtory) around.
i have my reverse spotty hard wired to the bat, good if its ur off road rig, and you can turn them on when ever you want, but the cops dont approve, (if they look for it) and sure as hell wont pass rego/pits.
its the same really, one uses the high beam as a switch/limiter, and the other doesn't.
oh yeah, and sometimes i forget that my reverse spotty is on, thats another bad thing, could drain battery.

sorry
hey mark,
sorry i haven'tgot any pics for you yet, my camera is chucking a spastic!
i did go and check the wiring, but i can't remember how it all goes, i'll have to take off the conduit to see, but from the back of the headlight, i seem to have tapped 2 out of the 3 wires. does this seem strange? maybe a + and - from headlight?
i'll have to take a closer look. hopefully my camera will work tomorrow.

Thanks Steve,
I still haven't figured it out, although I've found that my highbeam pickup wire from the loom is negative.
I thought it would be positive

guys Ive got your solution! sierra"s, well the sierra's Ive owned have been negative switched at the headlight so what you need to do is switch your trigger wires around at the relay. first you need to find the high beam wire to do this put a test light to the positive side of the battery than find which terminal an the back of the head light reacts to high beam and the pass mode run a trigger wire to the original switching earth on the IPF loom (from memory this is the earth conection with only 1 wire coming from it) now get the yellow wire which would nomally go to the back of the light and connect this to the positive terminal on the battery. this should make it work some mitubishi"s are like this too not sure how the indicator lights on the switch will react to this but on paper it should work! good Luck!
