Hi
While I have the axles pulled out (replacing rear diff), I want to do my drivers side beaing, as the seal is leaking (Will do the bearing with the seal)
Can anyone give me instructions on how to go about getting the bearing out?
12/85, LN61 Diesel 4Runner, Drum rear end.

I assume you dont have a press.
Try this
Remove the snap ring from the axle shaft adjacent to the bearing retainer collar.
Get an angle grinder and cut a deep groove in the retainer and then split the retainer with a coal chisel.
Drop the axle spline end onto hard wood etc. and the bearing should fall down the shaft with backing plate if you are lucky

Keep it simple
Most mechanics wont be able to do it unless they have the necessary gear. This will either be an accessory from toyota or something that they have made up themselves. This is usually done from a cut up rear housing. Toyota charged me $120 in labour to change the seal and bearing (which I supplied) off the car. If you are keen to do it youself and the bearing wont come off the axle, then smash the bearing to get the balls out. Then weld a ring on the inner face of the inner race and the heat will make it expand allowing you to remove it. The outer race should come free without too much trouble. To reinstall it, find a piece of pipe with the id as such that it will pass over the axle and contact the inner race of the new bearing and use it to drive the bearing onto the axle. Then do the same with the retainer and refit the snap ring. If you want to make the adaptor to do it yourself (if you can get your hands on a press, I'm selling a rear housing.

I actually got this done this morning. Cost me $90. I had the axle out of the car (new diff), and had removed the brake stuff. So bare axle with backing plate. Took 30min for them to do it, and 1.5 hours for part to arrive!!!!
Its going back in tonight, and car drivable again then, as diff is in, as well as the other axle.
How much do you want for the housing?
