Now we need some action pix...working on that soon :D


I know I could have added these to the old thread, but all its pix were lost..So we started a new thread, now he has restarted work on the 2.0 litre project.
Snorkle is finished, except for the cap. 3" tube I believe.
Roof and exterior of ute cab is finished.
Front bar work got started today.
Trans oil cooler is fitted.
A bit of work to go, but it looks like a zook again.

I dunno, sorry, will try to remember to ask.....but he usually uses engine enamel on everything, no prep needed and dries ultra fast and is very strong.

Very nice work!

the engineer went away on holidays, so it can't be checked for another month or so....but the engineers wishes have all been met (as far as we can tell)...just a few things to keep the owner happy while he waits for engineer, and dosh...needs bracing for the shock towers, a bit more wiring under the dash and the front bar work.

Does the 3/4 rear have to be pinned for onroad use? If so how are you going to go about it?

yes, it has to be fixed for on road use, with the need for tools to undo it....and a sign on the dash warning drivers of the need to pin/fix it before going on road.
It's simply an extra square u-bolt, same as the ones fitting the shortened spring to the chassis, to pin it to the chassis. just in front of the shackle..

3/4 during assembly, no pretty paint job yet.
this is a NT zook, on a WT it is not as simple. On a NT zook, springs line up with chassis. On a WT zook, you need to make the chassis mount. As you can see, NT zook just U-bolts to the chassis, all else is stock, except for removal of rear shackle mount. christover

Its going for the rwc on the 26" road tyres.
But then for off road will be 30" Khumo mudders, on 30mm offset rims(my old set) until money allows for size upgrade.
Final tyre size and type is not yet decided.
But have heard talk around 32 - 34 Simex ET's or similar.
I think he's going to keep an eye on my Mongrels, also, to see if they are good choice.

Man, that's turning out to be an awesome rig. Looks good. You guys have done an excellent job.

...except for the front indicators. Reminds me of a Lada Niva (errrk!), but what can u do?

yes, brand new OME for the full one, and his old standard spring for the cut one..he has used the original pin to locate it, using a standard axle plate as well...this is possibly not done by most, but he is a perfectionist.
If you wanted a shorter cut spring, you could just drill your own locator hole, I suppose.

Has he flexed it up yet? Interested to c how it goes offroad. What shocks is he running on the rear.

Did he gain any extra height on the rear from the 3/4?

3/4 isn't taller as the shackle mounts where the original spring hanger was.

I have had 3/4s on mine for about 7 years now and the top spring has never moved laterally in all that time. On road it is unnoticeable. There is no strange flexing etc offroad either. I think this is because it is still spua. If you went spoa with a 3.4 setup it would behave differently. The good thing with 3/4 over scissor shackles like missing links etc is that the flex is progressive as you are stretching an effectively longer spring

I agree, but I ain't man enough to tell him that, he's tuffer than me :D

And here's more of the trac bar pix, as peoples wanted to know how it controls its 3/4 rear..... there is other work going on, too, but its not photogenic.

yes and no, it is Joey's truck, but the blue one got wrecked out to help build this Black LWB zook.
Same motor as the blue one, but this time a 4speed auto.
And same Wide Track Diff housings.
This time he has gone to more effort to make things perfect.
About a years worth of work.

Auto oil temp and oil pressure guages are fitted, along with the auto power/economy switch .. and the torque converter lock up switch (under the red rocket launch switch cover)
The new snorkle is now finished and hooked up to the Air box.

You dont "need" one, but I reckon it would be a great idea.

Come to think of it I reckon a trak bar on any 4wheeled leaf sprung truck would be a good idea .. (especially when it has a 110 Kw motor in the place a 55Kw motor used to live)
