7in lift Steering fix
7in lift Steering fix
For a while now ive been thinking about a 7in lift (no blocks) in my 97 GQ4.2T What i am concerned about is the steering and what i will need to do to fix/realine everything. At the moment its 4in with castor plates adjustable panhards. I will be using a new lower control arm with the castor built in to it with the new lift . Any info from people with a lift of this size would be great as i would like to start getting prices for any steering parts i will need.

Why do you need a 7in lift? 37's fit with a 4/2 lift and guard trim
Being in Qld you would never drive past a cop without getting rooted in the anus.

if your going to run a tyre that size, put up with it (rubbing). unless you wanna extend the bumpstops which you will most likely have to do anyway. i have seen 265x75x16s rub on a 100 series cruiser with 6-7" of suspension lift.
speak to A1MAV (Dan) he runs 37s with 5" spring i think, although i dont know about cutting, i would presume so.
Gq ute new built
My wagon had 7in coils 2in body and 35mm spring packers with 37in mtrs still touched it all depends on spring compresion rate and wire thickness of the coil , my ute has custom coils 9in and 36in pro comp shocks and 37x12.5x16 creepy crawlers on offset rims and they just touch .
so lift away and try all combo's everyone is different.

regardless of your choice of lift
the main issues u will have will b caster etc on the front
and the steer link / panhard
caster can b fixed easily enough.......with caster brackets , modified arms , or 5 link fronts etc etc......a world of options ......just depends on what extent u wanna go
the BIGGEST issues r your steering link and panhard bar
they need to b as level as u can get them
and they need to match each other as close as possible
( which by the way , nissan never did from the factory )
other than that......even a 9inch lift will have 35's rubbing in spots.....with body lift.......but thats totally flexed up
minor guard trimming is your best bet with prob max 5-6 inch lift

has anyone got pics of modified panhard mounts that they could post?
I will eventually drop my panhard mount and maybe go GU steering box with the drop down pitman arm but I was curious as to how people have fixed the bumpsteer problem (not to mention all the others).
Is the idea to get the panhard and draglink exactly in line with each other and as horizontal to the ground as possible???
sorry for any hijack attempt was not intended. Just all good info on this subject is handy.
cheers

If you've got some spare time on your hands Nigel, which it seems you have since you're posting in here, maybe you could reply to my PM, and then get onto a courier and get my bits to me.
