Cruiser G/Box to Transfer Seal Problem...

Post by Meldge »

Hey there,

I am loosing oil from the top of my transfer and have been told that it is because the seal between the gearbox (manual 1986 MWB - 3F Motor) and the transfer case is buggered...

The oil then runs from the gearbox, into the transfer, fills the transfer to the top and then out it comes...

Gearbox - or transfer, now whining, will be pulled out (both of, for freshen up before V8) and rebuilt.

The Question is...

Apparently there is a kit you can get that runs a hose from the top of both filler plugs, to help keep oil levels up...

Is this a good idea or not?

Can the transfer play up if there is too much oil in it, as the car is feeling sluggish at the moment?

Where do you get them from and how much aswell?

Main query is the one about too much oil in tranny, but kit might be a good idea incase the seal goes again...

Use the hose. as far as i know, if you replace the seal, it will go again in 12 months.

i wouldn't worry about the overfill in the gear box, be more conerned about the lack of oil in the transfer case

i bought the hose from a 4x4 wreckers/parts place, which i assume most would have these.

paid aboud 50 bucks if i remember correctly. you could make one up cheaper though

Yeah, hose does sound good. it has overfill in tranny not box. It is draining from box into tranny. It is now whining though, might rebuild both items.

Good idea RV - will look into it that way...
