Went away for new years (gunnadah) and blew a head gasket on my 3.5. Now I have a reason to replace the motor ASAP so I'm going to fit the 4.4 I have sitting here.
It was out of a RR when I got it, so has the RR timing cover etc. It was fitted the a LT95. I have a R380 and was wondering will the flywheel be a P76 or a modded RR? as the clutch is about 7 months old on my 3.5 I want to reuse it.
As for cooling. What radiator is best to keep it cool? a disco unit or something compeletly different?
I was going to cut the sides out of the panel that runs under the windscreen to help hot air escape, any other idea's (would prefer to not fit a scoop in bonnet)
anything else I need to look out for?

It's all pretty straightforward. Keep in mind that because the block is wider your extractors (if you have them) may need to be bent away from the chassis.
Also the standard RR engine mounts dont work so have to modified. You may already have modified ones on the 4.4. I assume its running rover heads as well? Look at how its getting oil to them, hollow pushrods or drilled oil gallerys?
With my 4.4, i put in a radiator from a 3.9 disco. This in conjunction with an oil cooler has kept everything nice and cool so far.

Not sure of the heads. It has Rover rocket covers though.

The oil cooler i'm using was the stardard Land Rover one which was fitted to some model RR's. It mounts between the oil pump and oil filter and sends the oil to 3.9 radiator.
IIRC, the engine mounts need to be welded but as mine were already done its not something i'm all that familiar with. There are plenty of guys here with 4.4's so someone should chime in soon.....

For cooling my P76 i had a custom 4 core made in Melb, the std rad would not keep it cool at all, i also cut the holes to let air out and modifed the fan shroud (to suit body lift) so the engine fan worked at its best. I also have a Davies craig 13" electric that i switch on when req'd (not very often). This all worked fine 40+ degree days off road although the oil temp would still rise slightly.
