Hi guys! Firstly Happy New Year,and thanks for a great site!All your posts have helped to see me through some puzzling times!..Its very appreciated!
Am guessing your all getting bored with new guys asking silly questions,but here i go... Ive got a 89 LWB (MK?) (Same shape as MKPatrolGuy with leaf springs all round)..The motor does not go off road,and does about 6 miles aday on tarmac.After comming across your site i got the spanners out!!
Budgets a major factor as still at uni..So far ive put 3"extended spring hanger front n rear(Shackles?) and a set of 4 and a half inch steel machined body lift blocks in...(Squeeked and groaned a bit as i jacked her up,but has driven well and no bad effects for the past 6months)..And finished with a set of 35" tyres with no rubbing.
Whats the next cheap step guys? Ive got a further set of 3 and a half blocks?I know some people say the low chassis and high body look stupid,but hey beggers cant be choosers..Will i get any lift by lowering the other end of the leaf springs?
Any advise or cheap fixes would be great....All im looking for is (monster truckie)hight,not performance or handling

what do you mean no rubbing???? driving on the road does not normally induce this!!!! as said above, if you go and do this you are asking for unwanted police attention.

ahhh... thanks for the referal?! I only ran a comercially made 3" body lift, not 4 1/2 inch!! my 3" lift wasn't made by using standard springs with extended shackles or spacers. my suspension travelled ok, and didn't rub with 35's, and only a little with 38.5's at full steering lock.
even with my 9" lift and 3" body lift, i have nearly 1 metre clearance under the transfer case. The 44's will rub at full articulation, so i may start looking for some 42's.
personally, I don't see the similarities. I am building mine to go over a little rough terrain, mitsubishi's, mazda'a and toyota's.

oh, i forgot the advise....... get 2 aluminium ladders, lift the body using 1 ladder each side, layed on it's side. get it polished or anodised for extra effect. if there is any offcut of the ladder, use it to get in and out, maybe hinge it on the sills or something.

Seriously dude, what you want to do is very rare around here. But each to there own - I'd like to see the results! Here's some honest advice.
You'd be nuts to lift the body any more - nothing will line up, you'll lose the shifters through the floor, the steering shaft will be too short, brake, fuel, breather lines will all be too short. And that's just the things that are easy fixed (and surely with the current lift you've already come across them)! Instead, you'll put incredible stress on the body lift bolts and blocks, as well as the chassis mounts on the bottom and the body mounts on the top. I'm interested to see if you could do it, but my gut feeling says it'll be a shite load of work for little gain, if it is possible to hold it together at all.
Instead, a spring over axle conversion is the go. Just by putting the leaf springs on top of the axle instead of below you'll easy get another 4" out of it. You could really do it on the cheap, but it would be dodgy and dangerous as hell. The tradeoff is your decision of course.
Then lifted springs, cut guards and bigger tyres. Nothing as cheap as your body lift or extended shackles I imagine. Yeah you can drop the fixed chassis spring mount with a spacer or something, but make sure you plate and weld it good. This probably wont give you a lot of lift though (every inch you add is roughly halved in increased height at the wheel).
Hope that helps. To me it sounds like a bit of a money pit, with limited appeal, plenty of personal danger and a cop magnet. But then there's plenty of people who don't understand why I spend money on my POS.

yeah bit of an odd question, but spring over is the go with 4" lifted springs, but all that like you body lift should be engeneered.

I appreciate that im running on a budget and proberly cant do the proper (custom) stuff you guys have, It was just some simple questions to see if anyone could advise me of any easy height gaining mod i had not heard/thought of......(I wouldnt of attempted a body lift until i had found some helpful info on this site stating how easy it was!and this gained me extra inches)..................Sorry
As for the rubbing i mentioned,i meant on lock whilst on the road............Sorry
Over here in the UK we have a Ministry of Transport check once a year.The Patrol as is has just passed this last week,and from the station guys advise,unless im going extreme,simply raising the vehicle to a sensible height does not non void this.........The lift i have at present is not been done with sticky tape and string.The mounts were machined for the job locally and fitted with new rubbers..And the extended shackles were purchased new......
I do apreciate the few helpful qoutes like unwanted police attention etc thou...
