limited to 2" lift and 8" rims ...

Post by Cossie »

Just took out insurance with RACV but they only accept a max total lift of 2" (body and suspension) and maximum of 8" rims.

what size tyres does this limit me to?

I'm kinda new to all this but need something that is gonna be something like driveable on the road but still capable off road, possibly 33"'s?

its an 89 maverick diesel and is pretty much stock apart from bullbar and winch. I intend to throw a locker or two at it when funds allow but dont want to put a 2" kit on it only to have to replace it for 3" or whatever soon :?

and before anyone gives me any of the usual 'use the search button' bollocks, I have and didnt find much.

oh yeah, and its not too late to cancel the insurance if necessary.

thankingyoumuchly :D

8" rim will take a 33" tyre no probs, and a 33" will be reasonable on road.
2" lift and 33s should be ok, lots of different opinions getting around.
pretty sure most springs are 2-3" lifted. besides what the insurance company doesnt know wont hurt them, its pretty hard for them to figure out weather its a 2" or 3" lift anyways. take the sticker with the part number off just in case

cancel it, and call just car insurance
unlimited mods just as long as they kmow about it

free online quote http://www.justcarinsurance.com.au/

I have my GU with 2" lift, 33's interior mods (they take these into account aswell) $2500 comprehensive insurance.

but it all depends on your driving history, location, vehile value blah blah blah

If you are going to get into 4wding, you want someone who is going to insure you no matter what you put on (as long as you pay for it)

i dont think that the solution here is "just put in 3" they'll never know"
sure they may not know, but there are 2 things to worry about.
What if they do?
and I cant mod my ride any more!

So while you could just add all the mods you want and not tell em about it. if the unfortunate should happen, you'll be in the shits cos they wont pay

There are a lot of people out there with 32's that are quite happy with life...

I'm with Unique car insurance I have 4inch lift and 33's... 37's will fit on 8inch rims..... but wont work with 4inch lift.

$720ish for $25k agreed value of car and mods. this is through TCIS insurance.

i have recently gone through the same decisions you are making. i stayed with racv and a 2" lift plus 8"rims{toyota offset}. i run 33"bfg muds which technically are illegal but gave up trying to please everyone. they will tear off your front mudflaps if you have factory flares etc.

i just removed them and haven't got around to replacing them with an alternative yet. the rear mud flaps get caught under maximum compression and i need to remove them and as with the front find a suitable alternative.

at the moment i am considering selling up to buy another that is not so pretty and build it the way i want it without being too concerned about the value of the overall vehicle, just insure for theft and fire.

Its all well having things "ON PAPER", but if the car is not legal in anyway - too big a lift, tires etc etc, you may as well have it written on a piece of shti... You wont win in court, and if they want to be norti werd, they dont have to pay.

33s need engineers, 4in lifts do, body lifts do (here we go again), etc etc..

so if your car aint legal, save your money on insurance - put the $ towards getting it legal.
