What eight did you use
How much did it cost you
Why did you choose that eight
Why did you go Auto or Manuel
Was there easy access to of the shelf parts and adapters
Were did you purchase your adapters from
How reliable is it
Are you getting better economy
Was it worth it
What would you change
Unforseen costs
How did you get it complianced
Did you have to take the truck to transport to verify

2 x 350 TBI
1 x 350 LT1
1 x 350 LS1 to do in Feb
It cost the cust's lots
No substitute for cubic inches
Used Nissan 5 sp ,good strong reliable box , lots of auto horror stories.
Used Mark's adaptor's ,all 3 were out of true, thrust brg carrier to engine face which cause's clutch slip, not a major to fix first after you know about it.Contacted Mark's, "No, thats never happened before !!!!,are you sure??"
I always use a good auto sparky so reliability is good
They were all diesels before so economy is a joke.
Well worth it ,cust's are happy and are my best adverts.
Make sure you use a HEAVY DUTY clutch kit

funny you should say but you know the adapter that changes the flywheel bolt pattern (on auto adapter anyway) not the housing but it is the wrong length out by about 3mm which is causing the lock up to drop in and out and wears away the lock up haven't contacted marks about this at the moment but i don't think its worth it pretty sure marks won't compensate me
Don't get me wrong im not bagging marks but just saying

bubs wrote:bartso, what allerted you to this problem of the lock up / torque - convertor
lock up should drop out if there is to much weight on it or if you put your foot down a little bit and mine didn't do this
also it would drop in and out while driving alondg the highway then all of a sudden drop out and not come back on initially i thought it was a electronic problem but its not i found someone on the gold coast who has been looking into this and this is what he thinks the the adapter for different flywheels is about 3mm to short

Jap V8 s are small cubes so their torque curve starts higher up the rev range. Not ideal for the truck application we have.

the motor cost 3000 all up around 5000 i think
heaps better economy than original 4.2 petrol
whats the economy like on road city/highway and also offroad compared with a 4.2 petrol?
you on straight petrol or have gas?
possibly considering a v8 swap in the distant future. and i have heard that a VN 308 sounds good. stupid me i could have got one (whole car) perfection condition etc for 4000 for VN SS, should have bought it, it was my boss's car.

i don't have exact figures but i get roughy 350 - 400 km's per tank 75L around town taking it easy ofcourse drive it like a V8 and it will drink like a V8 on highway can't realy tell you but if i had to gues maybe 500-550km's
off road is where i have noticed the improvement the most going up hill climb it just crawls and i haven't got the oppriate diff gears in mud it throws the mud away it has far better throttle response

I am in NZ and have just fitted a LT1 injected corvette 5.7 litre into my 97 shorty with manual gear box. Used marks adaptors and I also found it was way out of alignment(2 others in our club had same problem) Took the problem up with Marks but they didnt want to know about it. They said they sell hundreds in Aussie and no-one has problems over there. Very disappoinrted with their attiitude. Truck goes really well now, better than the propane injected, turbo diesel I had in it

if you are intending on using the nissan 5 speed you will have no problem at all i only had a problem with the nissan auto the electronic side of things but anyway the starter motor is commodore due to marks adapter kit you can use the nissan radiator if it is from a diesel so i got one from a HJ60 cruiser diesel 4 core it cools great i have taken a lot of fins out and it stills cools good
extractors well i haven't got them yet but i dare say custom job, come check it out if you want

Just one option that might be cheapish compared to lets say an LT1.

Okay you want more power but have you really thought about the turbo option??? I know V8 is the more traditional way to go but i am confident there will be very few V8 conversions that will give you as much grunt and reliability for less money than a well set up TB42 turbo. Half of you blokes already have the most important part of the job; the motor. Even if you had a TD42 the conversion is way easier than putting an old V8 clunker in.
