Cheapo Toy CV = Kaboum

Post by DiscoDino »

Well, 6 months of heavy 36" tired offroading with merciless driving found the weak link - and it is gladely a 25$ product! The aftermarket CV blew apart like there is no tomorrow after trying to back up a steep incline while fully turned (I had my left ear a wee bit out just to hear it go). Well, 55 minutes later, the spare was in, the Kelly Kettle was cleaned and the snow was shook off the equipment.

Needless to say, no Rover CV would have lasted the 6 months...I'm yet to order the 30 splined Chromo ones...as I may wait to do so when the truck is in teh US for the MOAB run...

Here are some pics:

Other highlights are a broken Hi-Lift (guess 18 years are enough - gives a reason to get a cast 60") and a shaved front end that took out 11KG (~25lbs)...

Disco,I wouldn't be so certain that a 2522 Rover Cv wouldnt have lasted at least as long as that one. Have you ever tried them? Or did you go directly to the Toy Cv's ?
You must have some very abrasive snow over in Lebanon to wear 25 lbs of metal from your front end ? Or is that a modification you have done, rather than part of your carnage tally ?
Regards Bill.

Bill,

Jumped directly to the Toys...remember that these are the cheapos at 25$ versus the AEUs being at 180 and really scarce! once the Long Chromo come in, I am certain all would be good.

Snow = abraisive - funny shiat! No, I shaved it off...seemed useless, and anyways, the tires protect me against the trees now
