New tyres

Post by Tomas »

Hi,
I'd like to change my standar tyres (235 75 R15) and I'm purchasing to9 get 30x9.50 R15 or 31x10.50 R15. I've got a 2.5 TDI (4D56) Paj with 40mm suspension lift. I think for offroad second ones may be better, but could I have any problems in road (less reprise, etc). I have the factory gears on my car, could this be a problem?

G'day Tomas, I would recommend 31x10.5x15 tyre size. Your 2.5TDI may have 5.29 diff ratio's (some here in Oz did) but I'm guessing you have 4.88's. Either of these will run that tyre size just fine with a 40mm lift clearance will not be an issue in fact you can run 31x10.5 with no lift.
You don't say if you want an all terrain or a mud terrain type pattern, either way they will not handle quite as well on road as a standard road tyre but will be vastly superior offroad. A good compromise is to have a spare set of 31x10.5 mud terrains just for offroad work, they will be much better offroad than an all terrain and keep your road patterned tyres for daily driving.
Hope this helps.

Frank.

Hi Bitsamissin, Thanks for your help. I'm thinking in getting BFG AT becouse I use the car daily and mostly in road, and doing offroad on weekends. I dón't know what is the ratio of the car's diff. I think reduction is 1925:1 or something like that. I don't have factory flares so it's posible I will need ones.
Thank you an best regards from Spain. :D
