100 series update

My brother down South is keen on a new 100 V8 - there seem to be a few good deals around at the mo.

Anyone know of any meaningful update to the model in the 'near future'? Thought I heard/read that the next generation V8 will be five-point-something? Who knows could be my memory failing me again....

No offence, but I hope he likes replacing front diffs, my mates 100 series is the six cylinder and its done three front diffs, last one was a very weak effort. A V8 would kill the front diff in those things. Tell him to get a new Patrol!

If you believe the roumors there should be a 100 series update in early 2007 proberbly jan.
maybe a large petrol, possibly also a v6 1gr-fe in current prado, and even talk of a v8 turbo or twin turbo oil burner.

If you want one just buy one. v8 goes through the fuel though.
i am looking at a TD 100 series or TD patrol as a new lease car, but not sure i like the sound of the front diff issue. But atleast the engine is really nice.

Anybody know about good deals on the 4.2l as well ?

i think it depends on how you drive it , old man has a td 100 and set it up for touring/ harder stuff and hasnt had a prob with the front diff,

had issues with the transfer shitting itself though, seems a few have had this prob

Good deals on 100td4.2s? Know a bloke who sourcd a td 5spd gxl for $65k via Skyfleet(?) in Brisbane. Darwin dealers couldn't match that on even 6month old low km examples!

I had a 100 series GXL with 1HZ, took 4 teeth of the front crown wheel and syncros went in second and third within 90k. Did the smart thing and bought a GU. Toyota is loosing their reputation for reliabilty and only looks like getting worse in my opinion.

Yeah but a 100 series drives nicer than a patrol even though the patrol is tougher.

I guess toyota are doing them as warrenty claims. But what if you say have 33's and a couple of inches of lift, will they still do the repair as a warrenty. Not to mention because they are full time 4wd i imagine when it happens its not a great idea to keep driving.

When they go you have to remove the front drive shaft at a minmum if you want to drive em home. Apparently you can do something to the hubs to make them free wheel, but don't how this works. We took the front shaft off my mates one and drove it home, it was fine.

We did the same to sootygu....

There are now quite a few of the Cv's going on the independant front ends now that they have a few k's on them.
Some of which haven't done any off road.
Also they are cracking around where the torsion bar joins the lower arm.
There are no lower bump stops on these to limit the movement and eventually the eye on the shock or the welds will go with drastic results.

I dont mind independant front ends. They give a much better ride. Particually on corrugated roads. But if your doing outback travel, eventually you'll do some rubbers on the suspension. It is very easy to replace them on solid axles. On my Bravo, I had to have the bushes oxyed out and new ones pressed in. Something which cant be done on the side of a track.
