quick query, after a look and a search, thinking about opening the spring clamps on my 4wd, hoping for a bit more travel. now is it legal if i open em? and how do i open them up i guess with a crowbar or something and a vice? any one done em themselfs? and any pros and cons i not seeing. these are 18 month old dobsons, and are a bit um rought ride and not flexing. other wise , do i just pull out a leaf.
pros
bit more travel as they could be binding up the springs.
possible smoother rider
cons
If i break a main, then i in BIG sh*t as clamps would of held it together
the legal side
possible break the springs more often and axle problems
thanks in advance

if u want more "flex " get the spring specialist to remove some of the leaves .

how many leaves in each pack ?
these will help the spring gurus on here more to help u out

just a little left of insanity :)
the clamps don't hold the pack together they stop them from fanning out in certain situations. I would try this first then maybe look at removing a leaf or two. this will effect your laod carrying ability but will help flex.
i have opened the clamps on my leaf springs and it does give more travel as it allows the springs to flex more. Don't remove the clamps all together just bend them up so they form a U shape. it allows the extra flex without fear of them fanning out.
On a legal side I don't see it being illegal, you would be pretty hard pressed if you got done for it as long as you don't remove then entirely
