Beefy MQ Wagon
Beefy MQ Wagon
As the title suggests i must admit that i love the trucks with the big lift and thebig tyres.
I was thinking of going to 33's but now im not too sure wether to spend the bit extra and go for the 35's. At the moment i have a 2" body lift and i assume i would need either a 2" spring lift or a guard trim. Guard trim is possible due to the fact that i have a week off at the end of the month to fix up some rust and i could do it then.
What do you guys think looks the best??
I know the MQ diesels are slow as hell anyway but what are they like with 35's??

I know v8Patrol is gonna bag me for this, but here goes.
I'm eventually gonna be running 35s under my MQ with the SOA, and still gonna leave the L28 in her. If I wanted speed I would have bought one of those pocket rockets, u know the Matchbox cars on steroids.
So Shark if u like the rig and don't care about the speed and if the rig can handle it, I'd say go for it.
Mere
I just sold my MK SWB that had 35in tyres under her.
You will need 2in body and 2in suspension and even with this I rubbed
on the front of the guard and pulled the indicator protector off when fully
flexed.
My SD33T was not slow with 35's and standard gearing at all. The 4.6's I had ready for her would have made it even better.
But as I say unless you are prepared to cut the shit out of you guard or lengthen bump stops heaps lift the suspension, keep the body lift and trim guards last....

My shorty wasnt Bad on 35's way back when the diesel was in her. She wasnt much slower than on 31's. Honestly.
THE L28 WILL BE ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING ON 35'

It will make a massive difference from 31's, especially in a LWB, the shorty would be quite as bad.
The diesel can handle the extra wieght easily enough....

My Mk turbo diesel has heaps of power! even turning 35's. Low range gearing is brilliant (though i have put 4.6's in it.) I pull 450-500 kays out of a tank ( $70). A lot of you really have some pretty idotic ideas. And all the bull shite you all go to to do some pretty simple mods really Peeves me off. I just don't understand it.
Any way now I have that off my chest does anyone want to buy frankenstine? See for sale.
I am Generally in agreement with ya Peter. Bet ya know it too

But i contribute all the time all the same

My diesel had more than enough power on 35s. almost no differenence between 35's and 31's.

Shark, u will get a higher top speed, like 120kms, will take a fraction longer to get there but not a whole lot longer.....

If you havnt got anything decent to contribute dont bother at all especially on my thread. Not everyone has done what you have done nor do they have the same car/engine so excuse me for asking some questions before i go spend my hard earned money!!!!
I find that i make alot less mistakes if i ask questions before i go do something that way someone who has possibly made that mistake before can stop me from making the same one.
AND not everyone has been stuffing around with cars all their lives but find it interesting enough to give it a go and need to go somewhere to get some information, like outerlimits.

My L28 LWB on 35s was fine on the flat, but any hills killed it. Huge difference 31s to 35s.

off road
Sorry if i insulted anyone but really. We drive off road vehicles, we put on bigger wheels, which slow us down. We put in bigger engines, which use more fuel. At the end of the day we mod our vehicles to get us further into the bush to see the country and have fun. All im saying is why change everything to go 10 kay an hour faster on the road or spend a zillion dollars on an old heap to get an extra 100 kays out of a tank of fuel. look at the figures.
$3000 for a cheap motor conversion to save $10 a tank full.
that would be 300 tanks of fuel to make up $3000.
Say 500 kays per tank thats 150,000 kays to pay for the conversion. And thats a cheap conversion. Most poeple do say 25,000 kays a year, Thats 6 years driving to pay for the conversion.
How many Poeple have the same car after 6 years.
Wouldnt you rather spend that $3000 on Mods that are going to get you in that bush further and safer.
Oh no lets get more power so i can blow gearboxes (toyota mostly), CV's, Axles, burn rubber and clutches.
Yea I know its fun building them, So Ill shut up now, and you fellas go have your fun. I think im getting to old for this shite. Though ill hit midlife crisis next week and change my mind.

Gripe
Sorry about having a gripe, it wasn't aimed at this thread, and sorry for venting on this thread im just shittey with the whole 4WD thing at the moment. you know we build up our trucks just to have some pen pusher who doesn't know a thing about 4WD dynamics or off roading, tell us our truck is to high or to unstable. and he hasnt even seen it or been in it. The amount of trouble i had getting my modifications approved was unbeleivable. If i was in victoria it would have been easy.(well maybe not easy). They (the government) tell us we cant do this and cant do that dont drive here and dont drive there. And all they are doing is justifying there bullshite jobs by creating difficulty for you and I. Lets get a political party going and close up beaches because people mess up the sand, or stop bush walkers going on walking tracks in winter because they make them muddy, I know lets ban double decker bus tours. How dangerouse are they with 80 people on board. What has happened to our democratic society where we could make our own decisions about stuff. All they are trying to do is protect us from ourselves and preserve nature. Lets all have a new years revolution (not resolution) and not put up with all this dictatorship dished out by the minority.
Okay so we all get a bit pi$%ed off sometimes and i can understand where you come from.
Politics??? I dont know what the laws are in your area but trying doing up a fourby here in Perth. Everything is an absolute mystery, what you are allowed and what you are not allowed to do. What one cop will let you off for the other will book you for AND then if you try and do the righty it ends up costing you a motza while you pay for a stunt driving to corner your car at 100kph to see wether its safe!!!!! What kind of moron would do that anyway.
Anyhoo us newbies that have all our lives have paid for mechanics to do things come to a stage in their lives ( I know i have
) where they get sick of someone else working on their cars and decide to do it ourselves. So rather thatn stuffing up a job and paying some mechanic a fortune to fix it we try it ourselves but need the info first!!!
Anyway enough of that shite, just gotta decide....33's or 35's, not much difference in the price

35's
Go the 35's, will fit with 2" body lift and some guard cutting, all the better with a 2" spring lift as well, if you get the thing flexing right though you will still need to cut the guards. mine has a 2" body lift and SPOA and i still needed to make room in the guards. Don't forget to allow for bending a new lip on the guard to fit flares on. Use toyota offset rims 8" so the tyres don't rub on the inner guards and on tie rods etc. If you put on flexi flares you will need 65mm ones. Mine has factory steel flares and they took a bit of stretching to fit the newly cut guards.
Hope this helps

I hated the Deisel slug motor all along. Id love a V8 turbo diesel but thats a pipe dream. Never going to happen.
I love my V8. Pretty Quick, lots of Power, Sounds Awsome, and i get about 550Kms to $55 of fuel to fill her up

I WILL GO TO 350 CHEV soon from here, but only for Torque reasons with the 38's.

I personally love diesels engines for some reason. I wanna go v8 but when i thought about it i would love to keep the diesel and possibly turbo it. I have decided that im gonna keep this car cause its really grown on me its just hard to buy a house and all the crap that goes along with that and then have free dollars to spend modding ur car.
I just want me truck to look sick as!!!
