Hilux trayback dual cabs

Hey crew,

can you enlighten me on the model numbers(if any) for a hilux dual cab or extra cab with a tray back

not interested in non tray backs. redbook.com.au and other sites just dont have enough info

The had the same model numbers, just with no well back

toyota have a very simple numbering system.

first one or two alpha represent the engine code

the alpha before the numbers repesent the body code

the numbers at the rear represent the series of the body code. This doesn't change if it is a tray back or styleside.

Eg: LN65 Hilux =
L series engine
N series body (all hiluxs are N series)
65 is the the series. Hiluxs started at 40, 60, 106. I relly dont know where they get the numbers from

Eg HJ75 Landcruiser =
H = H seies engine
J = J series body
75 = the 75 series of the 'Z' body

the model after this was the HXJ75
HZ = 1HZ motor
J = J body
75 = 75 series.

Because they didn't change the body between the 2 models, they didn't change the series number.

However when they stretched the cab on the next model, they changed series number to 79.

Hey I had the same probs looking for mine... until I compared chassis on one with a tray and one with a tub... and discovered they chassis rails were the same!! I was so used to holden utes and 1-tonners having different chassis rails... Essentially if you have a dual cab with a tub, remove it and put on a tray of your choice...

so are the traybacks common, i dont think ive seen very many but u know what its like, when u start payin attention you see heaps.

Traybacks are common enough down here in north victoria... most of the farmers have them and a lot of the tradies. You are quite right, I didn't see many until after I bought mine and then they started popping up everywhere... Ebay often has second hand tray for sale... have a look under hilux (get a dual cab tray as the extra cab ones are too long!)

cool i didnt know about the alphas and numbers nice info.
as far as a tray goes i found mine to be too wide, this was probably to acomadate load space, but its much better now that ive cut 200 mm off its width. (now the same width as the cab) To this end if your handy with tools i think it would be cheaper to build your own tray, that way you get what you wantmine mounted with angle iron to the chasi. good luck.
