whats this do on a 1.3 carby

I think it relieves manifold vaccuum under certain conditions...It was siezed up, and had a one way valve (on I think backwards) in the vac line to the carby. ..so it hasn't been doing anything for a while.
I've fitted one from an old carby that does work, I didnt use a one way valve, as thats how the old carby was.
What is it and do I need the plastic valve thingy.
I'm hoping it may solve the smoking problem down long hills?

thanks, I will take that offer, always useful to have bits around..got 2 old ones off Mock, lucky I did, thats where the bit came from...have used up most of guys old carbs already......Letting gasket goo dry b4 testing, so not sure what difference it'll make. May swap over the whole thing next time it gives probs.. christover

It's ok, I know what it is, now...egr...not connectable on mine, so have blocked of the vac line, it may have been leaking slightly before....thanx all, christover

It is the EGR valve (exhaust gas recirculation) it is purely for emission and polution control if it doesn't seal properly then the car will act like it has a vacume leak.

Thanx everyone,
I guess the smoking means my new engine is stuffed, hope not, but I am grabbing at straws..

before you panic check your pcv valve.
When i fitted my new engine it was burning shit loads of oil and we traced it to the pcv valve had sucked its guts out and was then sucking engine oil out of the rocker cover into the manifold and burning it.

In case your not sure where it is folow the hose out of the rocker cover and where it goes into the inlet manifold there is a one way valve pull it out and check it only breathes one way.

that would explain why it dont smoke any other time, only when backing off down longish hills, makes sense now you've said it, its only just started to happen, it does have a strong vaccuum effect when putting hand over the oil filler hole, and it does go fine....thanx, I hoping you're right. Looking at it again tomorrow....I figure you mean at the t piece, one goes off to the air filter and the other goes down to the inlet manifold, which is where the one way valve is.
Sure worth checking, before I check the donk.
