Fitting a new 4.2 intercooled turbo diesel in a GQ

Post by ausyota »

OK I dont know a thing about datsuns :) Im purely a Hilux man!
Im posting this Q for a friend who recently bought a GQ Diesel with a motor that has nearly 400 000 on the clock.
He has spotted a wrecked latest model Patrol ute with a 4.2 intercooled turbo diesel that he could probably get the motor and box out of for cheap.
Can it be done?
And how hard will it be?
If its not a good idea what are some other engine options for him.
Thanks
Paul.

I would scrap all my other stupid ideas for that price, to get a GU TD42T and alll the accessories. As the best I have seen these is @7500 at the wreckers in Brissie some where.

I think $7500 is cheap too! when you work out the price of the Genuine turbo kit and intercooler from Nissan is over $6000 genuine.

Make sure your mate gets all the electrics to go with the fuel pump as the new pumps on the current factory intercooled 4.2 diesel are electronically controlled.

The fuel pumps as far as I know are not electronically controled. The only thing electronic with the engine has to do with gas recirculation to reduce emisions. If anyone knows more let us know as I have one. Ta.

Gday
TD6 injector pumps run electronic timing control via a control valve in pump as well as needle lift sensor in No1 injector.

I think its Brisbane Motor Importers or something like that in Brissie. I've seen their ad's in the 4x4 Trader or whatever......$7500 for low km import TD42T.

Gotta be a good option!! At $4000+ for a turbo kit that'll go on a "old" (330 000km) motor, why wouldn't you!! I'm going to wait for mine to "need" a rebuild and instead of spending $6k+ on a rebuild, I'll pay the extra $1.5k and get the TD42T. Later, get the DTS turbo upgrade, and I'll still have a new motor!!

This is an OLD thread  .
He didnt end up getting the motor.
It was allready promised to someone else when it arrived in the wrecking yard. Not sure how much it sold for.

why not just build yours from scratch with kickarse turbo set up and get the motor blue printed and ported. i know that may cost more but u have a new motor and u know it can have upto 150kw at the rear wheels and stil do a shit load of kms
