i looked at getting a turbo for a 1HZ and looks like a cost of around 3000.
also looked at getting a super charger but a capa kit is about 6 - 7 grand (for a hundred series)
would rather a super charger so i can still run extractors, no lag and no oil plumbing, but i reckon 7 grand is crap.
any one got any other ideas or places to get them from?
would you put a supercharger on this engine instead of a turbo? if not, why not

turbo or supercharger?

i think a turbo would be heaps better for a 1hz. turbo is free power and the set up is piss easy. i got a tubo and exhaust manifold from dynamic in melb for about $1700, 400x700x50 custom intercooler from sams alloy welding in melb for $400 all tube and mandrell bends from glenroy exhaust for about $150 and oil line and fittings from hyspec hydraulics for about $50 and 3in manrells and exhaust cost me about $100 and then you chuck it on a dyno. this is on a 1hz too. quicker on road than any standard factory turbo diesel or petrol. arent superchargers ideal for higher reving motors? turbo lag is almost non existant and unless your building up a 1/4 mile machine and your after tenths of seconds turbo lag does not even matter, you will not even notice it. i would be very suprised if a supercharged 1hz was more powerfull than a turbo 1hz. if your prepared to spend 7 grand+ wouldn't you just buy a multivalve turbo diesel and sell your 1hz? anyway just my opinion, good luck

they trailed them both on similar vehicles and there wasn't a huge difference (supercharger was better) but the supercharger was overheating a bit.

i reckon the turbo is the way to go. other than the kit and fitting, what expenses are involved. how much does it cost to get the fuel pump retuned. and how hot does it make the engine run compared to normal.
what sort of psi would you limit it to to keep reliability and bearing/ring damage under control? and at this psi do you reckon you would need an intercooler?

Intercoolers other than cooling the intake air also stabalise it, allowing you to tune with closer tolerences, which really means, more boost maaaate
Superchargers being crank driven offer more low down torque, which continues across the range, than a turbo does. However on a diesel youve got so much low down grunt anyway it's not a real advantage.
For my Petrol donk being a straight six I'd still probably go a turbo if nothing else other than the cost and the fat exhaust..
If I had the 8 I'd go the charger without thinking twice. You just gotta!
